Remember today for it is the beginning of always…
When it comes to One Tree Hill not much can be counted on, our hearts as fans have been played with, hope destroyed and rebuilt over and over again, sometimes the show is far too predictable yet it still manages to surprise us with twists and turns which leads to doubts to if it will go the predictable route. Yet amongst all the uncertainty there is one constant, one thing we all secretly know is untouchable – Naley. Nathan and Haley may be cheesy, they may be boring at times and far too predictable yet their fairytale love always and forever is the one certainty we are given. Can it be questioned they are endgame? Hate them or love them we all know they are the one constant, the guarantee of happily ever after. The biggest uncertainty the show surely has is who Lucas Scott will find his endgame with, will it be team Peyton or team Brooke, nearly everyone has a side which often leads to debates and battles, not only couple against couple each with their own compelling reasons but girl against girl. I am by far a Brucas fan with belief and hope that they will find their way back to each other, my faith is unshakeable and I will ship them until the end, whether I must sink with the ship or watch it sail into the sunset to live happily ever after, I will keep my faith because sometimes you have to believe in the possibility even when life has given you every reason not to believe. I love you [Brooke] I love you too Pretty Girl [Lucas] I love you Lucas Scott [Brooke] I love you too Brooke Davis [Lucas] Though I cannot say that Brucas is endgame I cannot say they are not, so instead I will compare the certainty that is Naley against the uncertainty that is Brucas. Two couples that have so many parallels it could be mere coincidence or just another sign that Brooke is the girl for Lucas. Think of their stories, think of their love and their timeline and the next time you watch the series keep your eyes open to what is happening between Naley and Brucas. Let’s look at them as individuals and what they bring to their couples. Nathan Scott and Brooke Davis were popular, rich and selfish, they drank and slept around. Lucas Scott and Haley James were not popular; two best friends who are smart, kind hearted, gentle, deep and giving, the average teen in many ways they lived bellow the radar. And then the two worlds collided. Opposites attract, well all Brucaser’s know that they do more than that, they complete each other. Lucas and Haley came into Brooke and Nathan’s world and shook them up, made them question their choices and their lives, Lucas and Haley saw past the reputations and the surface to the possibility and the beauty within these two lost souls. It can not be questioned that Haley made Nathan a better man even though she broke his heart by leaving to go on tour and kissing another man, yet they came back better and stronger than ever. And Lucas made Brooke a better person and ultimately she walked away from their relationship a different girl because of Lucas, even though he broke her heart they too came back better and stronger than ever (though we all know how that ended). I keep that stuff as a reminder of how badly I screwed up things… with you. To remind myself if I ever got a second chance I’d never let you go again – Lucas Both relationships fell apart originally to a third party and a dream, first Brucas with Lucas kissing Peyton and choosing a dream over Brooke, and by a dream I mean his dream of being with Peyton. With Naley it was Haley’s dream of singing which led her away and gave them their break, and that was mixed with Chris, who Haley kissed. Their relationships are not easy, all four have fought each other and for each other through out the seasons, they make mistakes time and time again and never fell together in a blink of the eye, no their love is a struggle but one they are willing to have, they are gradual and beautiful and poetic. They both share some of the most memorable quotes the show has, and as much as I would prefer to leave Leyton out of this just stop a moment and think to what Naley and Brucas have had that Leyton haven’t. It’s not just the mere lack of a rain scene and chemistry, go over the show, go over all the quotes we know and love, and ask yourself not as a biased Brucaser but just as an observer, do Leyton have the same type of quotes? Do we not have more, not only in quantity but in quality. Forget about ‘your art matters’ ‘it’s always there’ ‘true love always’, we have season and seasons of quotes, so many I can not list, what is the point anyway you already know them. And while I am on the subject of quotes and rain scenes, another parallel of Naley and Brucas, Naley’s first ‘I love you’ was in the rain with a touching speech, and Brucas almost mirrored that scene escalating it to new heights with their own in season 3, perhaps the most memorable of Brucas scenes. The difference? The difference is I love you, Brooke. I wanna be with you not Peyton. [but why? I need to know why? Brooke] Because you kink your eyebrow when you’re trying to be cute and you quote Camoo, even though I’ve never actually seen you read. And because you miss your parents but you’ll never admit that. And because I’ve given exactly two embarrassing speeches in my entire life and they’ve both been with you. I mean, that’s gotta mean something, right? And because we’re both gonna get pneumonia, but if you need to hear why I love you I can go on all night – Lucas The theme of season three is love; rekindling love, finding love, immerging yourself within love, and at the centre of it is the arc of Naley and Brucas. 3.13 is very symbolic with the rain scenes and the coming together of Brucas and Naley as they both give themselves to the relationships as Chris leaves Tree Hill, the man who put such a spanner in both couples. 3.22 is where both relationships lead to a dramatic climax, it’s where they go their separate ways, Naley retaking their vows and going into the light, and Brucas having their last dance, a beautiful fall to a beautiful love. I need you to trust me and believe me when I tell you that my heart is with you - Lucas I am holding on for dear life but I need you to need me back – Brooke And this is where Brucas hits the darkness, the uncertainty of will they won’t they. For so long it seemed that Brucas and Naley were the couples, both on a three season journey, but like I said after season three they go their separate ways and now we must wait as the journey continues. The part about taking chances and believing in the possibility even when life has given you every reason not to believe – Brucas Yet we keep faith that Brucas will get that certainty which Naley has been given, let’s not be bitter, let’s not give up for in the end it is the journey that counts and we have had a beautiful journey, one that has not yet ended. Let’s be patient, after all what would be the entertainment if we had two Naley’s, and come on admit it, the uncertainty keeps you coming back and at the edge of your toes, it gives us something to fight for. Naley are a certainty, there is no fight in that, and there is no hope or faith in that. I wanted you to fight for me! I wanted you to say there is no one else that you could ever be with and that you would rather be alone than without me, I wanted the Lucas Scott from the beach that night telling the world that he’s the one for me [How was I supposed to know that? Lucas] You just are. – Brooke Let’s not wait to be told, let’s just know that we have to fight for Brucas, that we will not settle for less, let’s make it clear we want the Lucas Scott from that night on the beach, because we are just supposed to know. People who are meant to be together always find their way in the end – Brooke

Brucas' quotes always come to me as sincere. Lucas' "I wanna be with you, Brooke" is a moment of clarity when he said it. Brooke's "I'm scared to get my heart broken again" is a show of strength despite fear by admitting it. It rivals my favorite JP quotes, to be honest!! :p And it's more of how they said it. Lucas never looked so real to me at that episode I described to you once in your forum post:
On that scene, you can see the fire behind that kiss that is mostly attributed from Lucas' part. There were little tears in his eyes as he confessed that he wants to be with Brooke. You can just see the depth of his emotions are uninhibited and real. I was looking at his face and I saw that and it breaks my heart. I never liked Lucas but that scene allowed me to see through him...and all he could be that's grand and powerful for loving this deep.
And Brooke..she was so scared to be vulnerable that she can't stand there and give him a direct answer. So she left and poured her feelings by crying alone in the car. That dread that she may get her heart ripped apart again by the same boy she feels strongly for was devastating. It was a risk she's not sure she can handle again. The pain and the uncertainty was there. She wanted to love him back and be with him but then she seems to wonder, "what happens if he wrongs me again? what happens if at that time I won't be strong enough?"
Actually, I only started to watch OTH because I adore Chopia and I find them very attractive together. In s1, I was surprised it was originally Peyton but I'm glad the show turned the other way and developed BL.
And yes, I WILL KEEP THE FAITH.

BC It would deeply sadden me though considering I find nothing in Leyton or the one sided relationship to be compelling. I'll keep the faith though for sure. No white flag for me either. My imagination just might have to work a little harder! Nice work B4C!
And cherise i do have that fear but at the same time though they have their similarities them as couples are very different as the relationships themselves have different dynamics, i love naley but they have a lot of cheesiness much like leyton really - but naley is better. IMO Brucas stands out amongst the other OTH couples because of the way they are together and how they interact, they have something that the others don't.
