I found this series of articles on livejournal written by username : Magicalthree's They are Great, and all about brucas!! 8 REASONS WHY BROOKE AND LUCAS ARE MENT TO BE!!
REASON 8:
I think Brooke's red door is significant in their relationship because it marked the beginning of Lucas showing his feelings for Brooke. This happens I think in Season 2? Brooke finds out she's moving and she says that she's going to miss being the girl behind the red door. And then Lucas does the CUTEST thing ever for her. He gives her his room and paints his door red. I never believed that Lucas was good at saying how he feels rather than just doing. Ya know what I mean? So this, to me, was like his way of showing that he wants his second chance with Brooke and he wants it enough to give up his sanctuary (the place where he writes mostly which is a big part of his character). I got this idea from OTHforums and thought I'd share it here! This is really short but concise! :)
Episode 402
PEYTON: All right, uh … imagine a future moment in your life where … all your dreams come true, you know? It’s--it’s the greatest moment in your life and you get to experience it with one person… who’s standing next to you?
LUCAS: Hmm Kate Bosworth--
PEYTON: --Shut up! I’m serious
LUCAS: Well, so am I
PEYTON: Luke … come on, I mean--It could be anybody, you know--your mom, Haley
SKILLS: Yuh boy, skills
PEYTON: Who’s it gonna be?
LUCAS: Brooke..
Episode 409
BROOKE: Luke!
LUCAS: Oh my god! This is amazing!
BROOKE: This is a dream come true. So who do you want standing next to you?
BROOKE: Go. It’s okay. [Smiles] Go!

Leyton from my POV.
The show started with the Nathan-Peyton-Lucas love triangle. You know the show is gonna revolve around them and for a moment, it did. The first episodes of s1 was all Leyton. It was perfect, Miss Broody met Mister Broody. Almost, until Brooke came along. Suddenly, the perfect Broody couple isn't perfect anymore. Leyton became an eyesore for me, it feels like their personalities are clashing rather than complementing. Leyton was a disaster. They want the same things, not just at the same time. When they finally found common ground, they resorted to cheating - it's like they were pulling each other down....
