Yep. Call me nuts, but I'd so love to see my favorite country singer, Bucky Covington, walk away with one of those silly CMT Music Awards belt-buckle doodad trophies this year. "A Different World" is a terrific song and performance, of course, but it isn't just that, nor is it the fact that the video really is a lovely, sunny, fairly-artsy-for-a-country-music-video delight to watch. It's all that, and a big dollop of pure respect for a talented guy who worked hard in bars and clubs far away from Nashville, New York or L.A. long before Idol and Hollywood came along, and who stuck to a dream long enough to make it happen. That's an attitude I can support and give lots of spare time to celebrate, whether it's a very gracious new celebrity, or an unknown but gifted guy or girl next door.
