Joan Sims' first role in the Carry On films was in '59's Carry On Nurse. She made 24 Carry On movies. In the 90's Joan was a regular on the fav tv series As Time Goes By, which starred Dame Judi Dench.

this is going to sound really sad but when i saw a publicity photo of the young joan sims i thought she was so gorgeous and i couldnt believe how she was cast in the carry on films as the old battle axe. i like to think that she played along with it laughing lots inside as she must have known how beautiful she was. i have read that sid james was besotted with her for years along with others and i couldnt blame them but i have allways had concerns that maybe she did believe the casting and did not appreciate what a fantastic looking woman she was.
