Christmas vs Xmas

I've always preferred the term Christmas in opposed to Xmas, it looks better when it's written in cards or a part of Christmas decorations, and what's an Xmas anyway? I know that it's some type of abbreviation for the word Christmas but it doesn't look right and it sounds worse if you try saying it, Christmas has become so commercialized over the years it seems as though many of us have lost our Christmas cheer and the meaning of Christmas isn't what it used to be, however this is my first Christmas on Fanpop and it's great to have a spot dedicated to this festive season, I am the youngest of eight and I try to keep in touch with my family as much as possible and even more so throughout the happy holidays, even though they live all over the place and some even interstate, family and friends are very valuable and important to me, so I try to keep in touch with them as often as possible and enjoy Christmas to the fullest extent, I still haven't worked out where the Xmas came from, but I'd like to wish everyone on Fanpop a Merry Christmas, no matter what you are doing and always have fun on Fanpop.

Great article!
I've always thought that, too. I guess 'X' gets abbreviated alot, i.e when people are saying 'Christina' they shorten it to 'Xtina'.
I've never really used it unless i absolutely have to, for instance if there isn't enough room to write out 'Christmas'.

Anyway great article and Merry Christmas!

The 'X' In Xmas means Chi in chinese which means Christ. So you are sill saying the same thing, even if you don't know it. It's just shorter.
