i though the filming technique was perfect for the story and made it seem much more realistic. furthermore, the visuals were astounding considering they only had a 30 million dollar budget. i really enjoyed this film!

The thing is, the cinematography was very careful to be completely steady & higher image quality in the important character beats and during the more important expository moments. It was really very clever. Then, once they had to start running again, it would go back to being grainy and handheld. Very clever mutliple camera work with crafty editing, really.

loads of people are throwing up while watching the film, not because of the quality of the narrative, but because some viewers are getting motion sickness. the reason it was shot using handheld cameras was because the film is about the people going through the trauma of having their city attacked rather then focusing on the monsters rampage. shooting the film this way (in my opinion) achieved a far better movie experience then the likes of godzilla. It wasn't becuase "they couldn't be arsed to film it properly" it was because this way builds up loads more suspense and takes the viewer into the actual film.

I agree with grahamb. Most films that are just cinematic are naff. This film showed a group of people on a journey of not knowing what the hell is going on. Just like us. Its better when we dont know things before the characters because it makes us feel like we are one of the characters on a journey. It would be horrible to see The President doing stuff in the film because we would know what is going on and it wouldn't give a good sense of mystery to the film.

I hate that people don't understand that using a handheld camera was part of the movie. It would be so so so boring if they had used a normal film camera, grahamb and TheLostBrotha are right.

The film was a complete ripe offfff. Total con artist and as for amazing cinematic photography.... mmm why are people say that. Did you acctual watch the film. I could film in my back with a couple of box's and a fluffy Toy.
People who say its an Amazing Piece Of Cinematic & Special Effects Work obviously have no idea.
Thats whats wrong with film today shyite stories just lots of bangs and booms. America may be fool because of there lack of intelligence and concentration.
Because if you had any memory you would realise that it is a complete copy of a certain radio show that aired in the 30's... and film in 58 and a again in 05.... ok different setting and obviously people but same plot and story basically.

can people make more art that money?????

I just realised that shieldmadian you said the only "funcking only" had a 30 million budget..... is thats more that a enough
trainspotting only had like a 3 million budget
and it i twice the film. Plus the effects are fair better because the don't really on computer animation...

i believe that the idea to film it with handheld cameras was taken from the blair witch project and was influenced heavily by monster films like Godzilla, but do I think it was a total rip off? no. I just think it's a new view point on monster films and more connected to the audience. and i still find it to be an amazing piece of cinematic work. please be respectful of our opinions.
