CSI: Family Bonding

You cannot tell by looking at us now, but at one point my family was a menagerie of mish-mashed personalities, with no one loving the other. Each member got more and more cynical as a divorce went under way, or a relative passed away. The strains on our family ties were visible, and it felt as though we were sincerely going to fall apart.

I tell you this so that I may explain to you why it is that I love CSI: Las Vegas. As hard as I have tried in the past, it seemed as though I could not find common ground to bring my family back together. Although our last names are the same, and each of us has similar blood, we simply could not relate to one another. This all changed when I was first introduced to CSI.

When I began watching, I immediately got caught up in the excitement surrounding the show. I became completely engrossed in all things forensic. Slowly, members of my family would realize I was tuning them out, or ignoring them to watch it. Can you blame me? As we all fell into place, each of us watching, guessing, yelling at our TV’s, (“The hair was red?! It’s not the wife!!”), we began to come ever-slightly together.

After years of watching this show, and growing closer to my estranged relatives, I have to thank CSI for giving me my family back. We all watch the show, calling each other to ask if we’d seen this or that. I sure do love CSI, and I will continue to watch for as long as it’s on.
