He took every wound, sorrow, regret and crime upon himself so that we wouldn’t have to.
|
[i]Words can’t go far enough to describe him.
He’s like fire and ice and rage. He’s like the night and the day, and the storm and the heart of the sun. He is ancient and forever. He burns at the center of time and he can see the turn of the universe.
And...he's wonderful.
He came to our planet as one of us. He walked among us, breathed our air, cried our tears, felt our joys and knew our fragile hopes and dreams. He reached into our dark and troubled world and healed our sickness, our blindness, our brokenness; and everywhere he traveled, lives were changed. He had no home and there was no one else like him. He never stopped, never stayed, never asked to be thanked. And when he saw we needed a savior, without one complaint, he took every wound, sorrow, regret and crime upon himself so that we wouldn’t have to. For us, he fought Death itself...and won.
My life was nothing until I met him. He took me away, kindled a fire inside me and showed me a better way to live. He gave me a new joy and a new purpose; a reason to hope in the midst of despair and laugh in the face of danger.

No. 1, Gallows Gate Road. Part Two. Written by Rupert Laight. Illustrations by Brian Williamson.
The Doctor heard a distant voice. A young woman. 'Is he all right?'
'He still looks very pale,' said another voice. 'Hold on, I think he's coming round.'
The Doctor sat up, and reality span into focus. 'I'm fine now,' he said, still on the floor by the front door. 'I think I won the battle.' And he began to recognise the residents of Gallows Gate Road - Miss Gibbs, the Major and the rest - as they looked down. 'One of you is an alien!'

We recently invited you to send in your questions for the legendary director of stories such as Rise Of The Cybermen, Doomsday and the thrilling Series Four trilogy Turn Left/The Stolen Earth/Journey's End. Graeme has kindly taken the time to answer twenty of these queries. Is yours amongst them? (Well, mine wasn't!)
Ian: How did you feel when you heard that Doctor Who was being brought back by Russell and co. Did you expect (or hope) to be asked to direct for the new series?
Graeme Harper: I was really excited as I knew it could really be brought to life with all the technology available now. I did not expect to be thought of, as I am considered part of the old school. I suppose I have never really grown up though; I think that's apparent in my work. I did make contact to say I would love to be considered, but although I know I was approached for Series One,...
