Sitka at the animal shelter
Today I got an adorable dog. She is a fully white husky named Sitka. Sadly, she has had a tragic life. She was a stray at birth. Someone picked her up, and found that her eye was severely damaged. So the anonymous person took her to the vet. The vet did surgery and took her eye out. The person took her and put her on the street again. She was a stray for quite awhile. Someone else picked her up and took her to the vet once again. They found out that she is heart worm positive. The person didn't give her the treatment and instead brought her to a pound. No one had adopted her, so they were going to euthanize her. The SPCA was her hero and picked her up about 2 weeks ago, before she was euthanized.

While I was watching the news this morning, I saw her on t.v. This dog's story was so touching, that we adopted her. Now I have an adorable 1-eyed, heart worm positive, sweetheart. Yes, we are going to give her treatment for her heart worm.

She has had a tragic life so far and she is only 2 years old. Anybody that saw the news might now her as Jackie. We changed her name. I'm afraid of what will happen next for her.

We think we found out what happened to her eye. When we gave her food today. She sat behind the couch and hid from the other dogs. We think that when she was a stray, other dogs fought with her over food.

Right now, Sitka is sleeping. We can tell that she is dreaming. Her feet are moving and her toes are twitching, which means she is running in her dreams.

Thanks again for your nice comments everyone!!!

Way to go! So glad to hear that someone is willing to care for this precious little gal. Huskies really are great dogs -- you're going to love having one around!

She enjoys sleeping a lot. I think it is mostly because of the heart worm. Her treatment will be started tomorrow. I am seriously scared of the treatment. She has to compleatly relax after she had it. My family and I left for a few hours, we put her in one of the rooms. We come back and she chewed everything up. She also got her self stuck in the shower. We can't put her in the back yard alone, because we have a pool. With a dog with one eye who probably can't swim. It wouldn't work. We just brushed her to calm her down. She hates being away from us.

I'm glad you liked the story!

We think that a man beat her up. She's afraid of men, but not of women. Anyway, they beat her up so badly that she needed to have her eye taken out. You can tell she was abused by the way she acts when she meets new people. She watches them and makes sure they won't hurt her.

We also found out that she can climb trees. She does it to get the squirrels. Thank Goodness she doesn't. It's only because she had to know how to hunt when she was a stray.

Yes, actually. She's gone through 4 treatments and we believe that the treatment worked. We are going to take her to the vet this weekend to find out.

Kudos for bringing this beautiful animal in to your home. Dogs give such unconditional love that I cannot understand how someone can mistreat them.

I have a magnet on my frig that says "This home operated for the comfort and convenience of the dog." That is truly the philosophy in my home; and sounds like it is in your home as well.
