So, it’s been over a year now I’ve been working on this Heroes fanfiction A Very Sadistic Christmas, an Elle/Claire slash from Elle’s point of view. In that time, I’ve studied the character Elle Bishop on Heroes in an attempt to get her viewpoint and dialog pattern down. I’ve discovered that my take on Elle is pretty out of character compared to the Heroes canon. And so, I have written this article studying Elle so that I may better understand her and so that I can potentially help other Elle-writers out there.
First of all, it’s important to note that the portrayal of Elle changes radically from season two to season three. For now, I will refer to Elle as she was in the second season. Elle is a sociopath with paranoid delusions and sadistic compulsions.
Originally, Elle was a nice girl, one can imagine without any mental issues, until her electrical powers manifested. Kristen Bell is an actress, but she's also a TV fan.
Therefore, she's aware of the criticism surrounding this chapter of Heroes. How does the portrayer of Elle feel about it?
Bell recently shared her thoughts in a new interview:
"I think everybody deserves a get-out-of-jail-free card for last year, with the writers' strike and the nerves. No good comes out of concentrating on the bad. But I think people might be saying that because they haven't seen all of this season yet. This season is really good. It's comparable to season one—which, start to finish, I think is up there with Lost and 24 as one of the best first seasons I've ever seen.
That's what hooked me onto the show, which was why I wanted to be a part of it. Season one was just amazing. And season two may have had its bumps, but they're bringing it back now."

- Elle: "You're hurting me."
Sylar: "I know"
- Elle: "We can't take what we want anymore."
Sylar: "Says who?"
- Elle: "We created a monster
and set him loose in the world."
- Claire: "What if there's something wrong with all of us and they can fix it?"
Elle:"You're fine. You're perfect."
Claire: "No, I'm not. Whatever's happening to you, it's happening to me, too."
Elle: "You're still healing, aren't you?"
Claire: "Yeah. But I can't feel pain. And I think it's only a matter of time before I can't feel anything at all."
Elle: "You can't feel pain. I wish I had your problems, Cheerleader. My body is screaming. I'm in agony."
Claire: "Go with me. If there's a chance that these people at Pinehearst can help us, we'll go together."
Elle: "All right, Dorothy. Then we're off to see the Wizard."
