I joined the ranks back in April. I was just a kid then. A noob, is what some would say. Everything was calm at first but after a few months it got rough. When I joined, we had videos, forums, comments, images, links, and soapboxes. Nothing too fancy. But once the picks came in, it was hell. Users swooped in left and right making picks that were random and completely off topic. I didn't know what to do. It was happening so fast. I got scared so I ran. I was a nobody so no one noticed when I left. I started training so that I could come back and I would be ready.

A few weeks later I was back. I tackled those picks no matter how random. I answered, watched, commented, and added. I was the ultimate user. Or so I thought. I had discovered other users who were better and able to react faster. I would see a video on Youtube and would go to add it but I would see that it was already there. I felt discouraged so I hung back a bit. Added a little there and commented a bit here. Finally I found a moment to shine and I took it.

It was close to the end of summer and I was surfing Youtube and Fanpop at the same time. It was a skill I learned in training. I came across a video entitled, "The Office Summer Vacation." It was added only 10 minutes ago. I copied that baby's url and added it to Fanpop. I was the first to get it on there and saw immediate response. I knew the dunder-heads would go crazy. After all I had when I saw it. I started receiving props and loads of comments came in. I finally had my 15 minutes of fame.

My next moment came months later. It was December and I had a brain child. Fanpop Secret Santa was born. I gave you all my idea and you loved it. Again i received props and loads of comments and thank-yous. It was the ultimate event in my mind. It even got nominated for a Fanpoppy. I had my 15 minutes again and I was so excited to get more.

For the next few weeks I tried to find ways to get recognition. I posted videos and some commented but it wasn't the huge response I craved for. I kept adding content but my third wave of 15 minutes never came. I slowly slipped into depression. I stopped using Fanpop. I used Myspace more often and watched more videos to keep me busy on the internet. But it all bored me. So now I'm back. And yes I did leave in case you hadn't noticed.

Great article. It's always nice to hear the story behind a fanpopper.

please do stay, it's important to add what you want to add not to get noticed and if you do it that way, you will ocasionally come across the perfect gem :)
