*Fanpop's IM: bond with your fellow fanpoppin' friends!
|
G'day awesome Fanpoppers!
I think this piece is really too short to be considered a proper article but I just wanted to give a *high five* to the newly introduced feature, Fanpop's Instant Messaging.
I became aware of this new feature less than 24 hours ago, I'm sure by now most of you guys also have it.
At first, I thought this was just a way of letting users know which other users were online at the same time. But no,it is far more awesome.
It's instant messaging between you and your Fanpop friends.
I love this already so much. I think I've spoken to about 30 or so different users/friends in the last few hours. Just one point I have to make right here and now: not the best idea to talk to 6 people all at once, lol. Does get a bit confusing.
What I particularly like about the IM is that unlike the chatroom feature, you have the option of choosing who you want to talk with privately. With the chatrooms, although you can speak privately if you choose, it's pretty much a random thing when it comes to whom is available to talk.
I have to say that my connection is a bit more slower than usual but then again I've learned to live with this hurdle because I am on dial-up.
I spend quite a lot of time on the site but I don't always feel like contributing content 24/7, so the IM is perfect for just sitting back and chillin' out having a conversation with a friend.
It also makes a huge difference from just emailing, more personal and in time.
I think my assumption is pretty much accurate when I say that I think most users are happy with the IM. I haven't as yet spoken to anyone who hasn't said that they like the feature alot. But
I've also read some comments on the couple of picks that have been made in relation to the IM, that a few users are annoyed by it. The pop-up seems to be interferring with what they're doing on the main site.
Now, to say that I am technically challenged is the understatement of the century but there is a way around not having the IM in your face, so to speak.
You can either go to your profile page and turn it off. But why you'd want to I don't know!
Or you can just click on the pop-up itself.
I found that by clicking on the 'x' or the'-' on the blue bar (right hand corner) it doesn't really work, the pop-up will come up again. But if you click on the 'friends online' bar at the bottom then that should keep the pop-up at bay until you want to use it to message.
I want to finish by saying the most important thing and that is to say thank you to the F4 for bringing this feature to the users.
I'm sure Michael,Dave,Cliff and papa have worked tirlessly 'round the clock to get this together for the site for all (who wish it)to enjoy.
So, guys, a big THANK YOU to you! You're always doing something to improve Fanpop and bring the Fanpoppin' community even closer.
Happy IM, awesome Fanpopppers!

Also, in the even that someone doesn't want to use this feature, it can be hidden/disabled from the profile page (look under your about section for a "turn off im" link (you can always toggle it back on later).
I have a question though, why is it that when I'm checking on my updates or whatever the IM keeps on signing me out automatically and I have to keep on signing myself back on?
This is so not awesome because they means that my good buds think I'm not IM when in fact i AM.
Hey Cliff or papa or someone! If this shows up in your updates can you please help provide an answer???
Much appreciated,thank you.
PS: This is driving me nuts!
This really helps.
