Why I Left Fanpop

I've just swooped in to give you guys an explanation as to why I have left the site last week. Firstly, many thanks to those of you who emailed me wanting to know what had happened to my profile. Some thought my account had been hacked,others assumed I had been suspended as a user. To be totally honest, I wasn't in any mood to reply to numerous emails indiviually nor did I want to bother with explanations. However,this www.fanpop.com/spots/fanpop-users/answers/show/43973/w...mie was linked to my account on Facebook yesterday by a fellow Fanpopper, so I thought the decent thing to do was answer this myself. I was a user on here for over 18 months and this place was like my second home - truly. I felt very content and comfotable on the site and I do not think it is an exaggeration when I say that I was indeed very addicted to it. From the very beginning, you guys were always very nice to me and made me feel very welcome here. But over time I saw things that I did not particularly think were right or fair happening on the site. Users verbally abusing other users, mild kind of bullying going on,etc. I chose to ignore a lot of that and just carry on and do what I was here to do. BUT there is some things one cannot turn a blind eye to. Or should not! On one of my own posts last week a user accused another user of having multiple accounts. It's a pretty bold accusation to make without a shred of evidence, but this user went even further and strongly suggested that two accounts that existed did not belong to this user's children but him as well. I personally believe that when someone goes on a site and publically makes such allegations that they should be able to prove it. You don't discredit another person and question there real identity based on mere suspicion and a thirst for drama based on some personal vendetta. I think the most ironic thing is that this same user actually is friends with somone on here that does have multiple accounts but I guess it's a bit different when friendship is involved,hmm! No, I am not being a b*tch nor making false accusations here. I will NOT expose here publically this well known user that holds at least 3 different accounts but I will to the F4 if they want to know and went to keep their site running nice and efficiently. Just as I can prove by the picture which I have provided below that there is children and two of those children were the holders of the two other accounts that were also deleted. I will not return to add any further comments on this article so I will say something right now before someone questions these kids' ages. These were not under-aged kids holding Fanpop accounts (although I think we all know that there is plenty of under 13-year-olds here), they were 14 and 18 -this photo was taken some years ago. Now guys, you come to your own conclusions on this. I didn't come on here to start a battle or to rubbish the site or any users in any way. My aim is to express my disappointment at how some user behaviour should not be tolerated or just taken at face value. There should, at least, exist such a thing as the benefit of the doubt. Logically looking at it, anyone could be whoever they choose to be here. Do any of us really know the true identity of anyone? I know I only know one user in real-life. Unless you know anyone personally or are related, then we could all be wondering around with fakes identities. Is there any Fanpopper (except for one) or the F4 for that matter, that really knows who I truly am? No! Am I just an Aussie 45-year-old mum with a fixation on an old tv series? Maybe. But for all anyone really knows I could be a prisoner sitting in some maximum security jail serving life for triple homicide. My point: no one really knows anyone! Yet, that does not give the right or excuse for people to concoct stories that are damaging and hurtful. I am very aware that the site was very distressed my the pranks pulled by the user Love_Not_War_75 last year. People were also fooled and that's something that no one really enjoys being. I have one question though and that is why,I wonder, is that user's profile still active with a lovely RIP motto on it? Not only was this user a proven deceitful person but it was quite apparent to all that he held at least another 2 accounts. Oh, for anyone who might still doubt that this user did not kick the bucket...here's proof (a friend linked him to my add to friends on Facebook a few hours ago): http://www.facebook.com/req. Wow! Hell, I guess miracles do occur because this dude is alive and kicking 8 months after his death. Anyway,it's the double standards and unfairness that seems to be happening here that has made me discontent and disappointed enough to want out. Medals, over 1,000 props,Fan of the Year,etc really means very little to me in comparison to integrity and what I believe to be right from wrong. I fully realize that not everyone will like or agree with what I have had to say here. But I have not said anything that is not a fact. Some people wanted to know why left the 'pop so I have explained it as honestly as I can. There's just one last thing I really want to say and that is how great in particular the young kids on here are. As the mum of a 20-year-old, I am fully aware of how harrowing teenagers can be,lol, but you guys are awesome. Some of you are way more mature than many adults I know and I thank you all for being so sweet and kind. I thank Fanpop and the F4 for the time that I spent on here as it was special to me and I will miss it and the people. But now it's time to move on. All the very best to everyone! Love, Cam

i think people dont get banned for muliple accounts. they do however get banned for bad behaviour..some sooner some later.
We're all going to miss you, Cammie. You were the first person on Fanpop that really helped me learn the ropes, so thank you for being so kind.
Although I agree that there are some things on this site that are unjust, it's the users (and only some users) that are at fault, not the site itself. I wish you hadn't given up on it entirely, Cammie, but it's obviously your choice and I sincerely wish you well.

It is a real shame how a few people have brought down parts of the site and taken away the fun and enjoyment that people felt while Popping in the past! :( (like others have said this isn't the fault of the site or F4 but those mean people who claim to be fanpoppers!)

i am sorry to hear that you were on here for quite a while its sad to see old users leave because there is so few left..... but i guess you are right i hope you have a great time doing what ever your doing and enjoy your life to the max.

I truly hope you find happiness elsewhere as much as you enjoyed it here on fanpop. And I hope the pain of leaving fanpop is brief. Cammie has been actively spreading around the lie that I am solely responsible for WileE-Quixote's banning. This is simply not true.
The comments she is referring to, regarding my suspicions about this user, were made AFTER his account and all accounts associated with him were banned. He was not banned because of my comments and they didn't factor into the F4's actions whatsoever.
As Germany said, I also don't think a user would get banned for multiple accounts. But they DO get banned for bad behavior. Which is the case here, whether Cammie chooses to believe it or not.
I will be alerting the F4 to this article in the hopes that they will say something here to stop these lies from continuing. I am only a user, like the rest of you. I don't know why the ban was made, nor do I have the power to single-handedly get any user banned just by making a comment.
Whether you were responsible for getting Pete banned because of accusation of multiple accounts solely I do not know.
I point rests in the accusation that you clearly said the other accounts were his as well and not his kids. That was a lie! So again, I will repeat: no one has the right to open their mouths and say such things without evidence.
I can't supply a link to your comments because it was made on my post and I have deleted it and unlike some people, I never screen shot for future reference.
I have no doubt, that you will come back and add to this. Do so if you wish. It's a free world and I do strongly believe in freedom of speech which is why I decided to write this article in response to the question that was asked about my whereabouts.
Now, I have no more time for this playing the martyr act and am going over to feed my piggy on Farmville.

i just wanted to add something though and this isnt in regard to whatever was going on between users but: i know for a fact that while discussions on said thread thats now been deleted were still going on the account in question had been banned.
wile quixote left a lot of random and unhelpful responses on a lot of content i saw...i dont know how many accounts he had or has but i know that he was at times maybe trying to be funny but a lot of the time was just spamming other peoples content with useless comments. that in itself was annoying..and personally im not sad to see THAT account banned. i dont know the other accounts in question but it did seem odd that he at one time had 18 "best answers" on this spot for answer responses that in NO WAY addressed the question.
anyway as i said above: im sure he got banned for something but not for fake accounts..cause really SO many people have fake accounts then they would all be banned too.
For the record, we don't ban for multiple accounts per se, but for what people *do* with those multiple accounts (e.g. spamming, trying to influence the outcome of picks, private message harassment, etc.). No sole user is responsible for any banning, banning comes at sole discretion of the site owners based on our best judgement at the time of the event/events and lot of factors that may not be evident [visible?] to those who frequent the site.
At any rate-- sure there are, for lack of a better word, real douchebags on the pop. There are also users who are misunderstood. Users who mean well. Users who are too shy to speak up, and users who are too loud to listen. We may not always get along, but (excepting the douchebags and trolls) we all have one thing in common-- we all love Fanpop.
If I used course language at all on Fanpop (douchebag doesn't count), I might say fuck the trolls and bullies, it's our site, not theirs. Lucky for you, I have better manners-- so I won't say that.
I hate trolls. I loathe bullies. But we'll never totally get rid of them. As for those who aren't bullies or trolls-- those users who, for whatever reason, we always seem to clash with, even when we both mean well-- well, like life, that's just something you've got to put up with. If you don't work well together-- don't work together at all. If you have to work together, be civil. If your nemesis isn't being civil, rise above.
These social problems aren't exclusive to the Internet.
I'm just sayin.
I adore Cammie muchly. Even when I disagree with her. She's a real peach, and a beacon on Fanpop, and constantly positive, social, and welcoming. She stands up for what she believes in and she speaks her mind. I'll miss her around the 'pop, sure. But, like I said on that answer, I wish her the best of luck in whatever she goes off to do in the future.
Um, yeah, that's all folks.
And yes, I'm sure the awesome Camsterdam will be back. :)
I will say however, that Cammie, you are a fantastic person and an excellent Fanpopper and I have respected you greatly from my first interaction with you on here. It is a terrible, terrible shame that it is the users like you (i.e the good guys!) who are feeling like they should leave Fanpop.
I wish you the best of luck and hope like hell that you come back some day. Fanpop is a better place with people like you around.
^LOL! I am so melodramatic! But I really think that Cammie's departure is a terrible loss for the Fanpop community.
Days when random comments generated days worth of amusing chatter, when new people were welcomed with open arms, where jokes concerning certain Fanpoppers were not lambasted for elitism, but enjoyed as jokes, when chatspeak was social death, and when spots were not overrun by jibbering apes on day release from the zoo!
Cammie, much as you berated and poked me with sharp sticks, I shall miss you, you dirty witch, the same way I miss chel, Temptasia, Edennirvana, Dr.Devience, Hillbillee Chick, and many more.
One day the Pop will be restored. And we shall ride golden seahorses through the shining gates of victory.
You'll always be my #1 witch and I promise I'll still keep the Cammie spot and WileE-Quixote spot going, one way or another!

P.S: germany123, If that's true then I don't understand how he got banned then if it wasn't the account-issue. I knew WileE-Quixote very well. He never misbehaved, he was always generous and helpful....
Astroasis, I admit I have no idea how WileE-Quixote got banned. I'll be very upset if you did have something to do with it. That's all I can say.
I'm not angry and I have no problem with you. I just want the blame to stop being laid on me. WileE's behavior is what got him banned from Fanpop. Not me.
give the f4 a little more credit! seriously- you guys think that just cause i say: hey user XYZ has two accounts cause they told me the f4 take my word and ban them? fanpop is a company, a website that depends on its users and them adding content therefore bringing traffic to the site and then getting advertising clients. the f4 are too busy to care for troubles users have with each other- they ban when they think their site is in danger cause people are behaving against the terms of service- they arent petty like us who say: BUT SO AND SO GOT A MEDAL AND I DIDNT!!!
i reported wile myself for leaving spammy and unhelpful comments on a number of answers on this spot so you might as well blame me, too! go ahead! the dude might be funny to some and a great friend, all i ever saw was attention seeking and creepy messages.
i know cammie and wile are friends and i totally respect that. i like cammie a lot (piggie coming your way, hon)- doesnt mean i have to agree with wiles behaviour.
i think before we start blaming people for stuff we have to understand first how this site works. i think the only users who get banned withoot second chances are actual spammers (who post links to online sales/survey sites etc) all "regular users" get more than one chance to misbehave.
On the other side me and Pete where great friends which makes it kinda hard to see him go. I was one of his first fans i think? before he got really big and we used to chat a lot even though after a while we didnt talk as much i still talked to his daughter all the time and on occasion if he was on IM him. Now tell me this? Dont you think its a bit odd that both of them where banned from fanpop. I dont know? just a little food for thought its kinda odd ya know. Although i think her account was only suspended which is far-less a penalty than being banned but still odd?
So from that stand point i cant help myself but to side with Cammie on the Wilee part of it. Your right spamming is wrong but yet i havent seen any spamming going on of what you talk about, maybe i am just blind XD. As i said later to day i will go to answers and see if i can see what you are talking about.
lol, see this is part of the problem imho...the guy wasnt "big" to most users here- he was just this name that kept popping up with stupid unrelated comments that were MILES long. like i said before this isnt personal. im sure he was your friend and a "big" user (whatever that means btw) in your eyes. to the f4 he was just someone not behaving. you have to differentiate "the user" and his behaviour and your personal views and friendship from the views of a business trying to keep a user friendly site going.
I did NOT, however, EVER accuse WileE of having multiple accounts prior to the comments I made to Cammie in the thread she mentioned - which took place AFTER his banning. I also was not, in ANY way, solely responsible for his ban or the bans of his other accounts. (Put in bold for those who don't like to read long posts XD)
That said, I think a lot of people here don't understand how websites work. Website owners have ways of verifying where users are posting from - and can use these methods to prove that accounts are being manned by the same person. The F4 don't NEED a user like me (or anyone) to say, "Hey, these accounts are all the same person!" They can look into that on their end and see whether it's true for themselves. So is it true or not? Who among us really knows? None of us. But rest assured that the F4 DO know.
NOR have the F4 EVER banned ANYONE on this site just based on some random accusation made by a random user in a random comment in a random heated argument. (Let alone one made AFTER they already banned the user in question, but we'll let that part slide for now, I guess :P)
^THIS. There's, like, 15 people in his personal spot, guys. And one's a double account, one's him, and three others were banned along with him. So that's 10 people who like him enough to join a spot for him. That doesn't make him "big" by any means.

I miss the randomness of the users and fanpop spots! It really isn't the same with all the prop and medal whores hanging around now and the bickering and 'she said, he said'!
For me fanpop used to be a place where I could escape that kind of behaviour but now its crept into my fanpop life too :(

All I know is that WileE-Quixote would never harass anyone or display bad behavior. Yes, he'd joke around a lot. But that's basically all he has ever done.
I don't know how this turned into a blame fest. All I knew reading the original article was Cammie had issues with a user, who had issues with another user, there was drama, and she left, the end.

These kinda of convos, the complete randomness, is the sort of stuff I've missed seeing about Fanpop. Or maybe I've just not been lurking around in the right spots or all the cool places LOL :D
