The update idea

I thought of a "reply" button but it could have got a bit confusing so I decided to suggest my other idea, the update idea

I've thought something like that would be good before, but at the same time it ruins your fun a bit--rather than going round all the forums you've contributed to, wondering why no one's commented on your message and typing another one just in case your comment is invisible to everyone else or something (you are inclined to be a bit irrational at this point) you just know immediatly that no one's commented. Kind of like the updates list. It ruins the surprise.

We're actually going to turn on e-mail alerts soon so people will know that you comment on something they'll get an e-mail. We haven't turned it on yet because we don't want to spam everyone and make them angry. Have to get it just right!

I like that idea, although it's fun to keep searching fanpop and then find someone's replied to your comment ^^

I don't want loads of e-mails, I'm already on Fanpop ¬_¬

But I do wish we could get alerts in our updates box for stuff we've rated, voted on or commenting on, it's annoying if someone's replied to an old post you made a couple months back in someone elses created thread, knowing you can't reply because you don't know it's there.

i'm also agree with benji i like the way we get the alerts in our update box and dont want to get them in my emails

Do you think it's worth making a pick: "should we get fanpop update alerts through email?" ?

While I like the idea of e-mail notification - I've even asked for it before - I'm sympathetic to benji. I'm reasonably sure that, once it's implemented, there will be an opt-out option, something like "click here to turn OFF e-mail notification". It's kinda web-standard.

I'm curious whether the changes to my updates have been all that you hoped they would be, knifewrench...?
