The "Active fan medal/mark"! (my proposal for fanpop.com to make it better for us fans)

That right there doesn't sell me. Not everything people earn has to be easy, being a fan isn't made just to be easy. You can be recognised with or without a mark as to being an active fan of something. If you comment and such people notice and discussions start, etc.

So, a proposal to lower standards? You don't see that one a lot... =P

I re-read what you wrote several times and am having difficulty in understanding exactly what you are suggesting. Fanpoppers don't require a mark on their profile to show where they are active simply because you might be active in a spot this week and not visit it again for a month. So therefore that wouldn't work at all. Also it is already visible to all on all Fanpoppers profiles where each user is most active in, ie the medals.

i read it as a medal for being active in a spot, like take for example the user ineedcoffee she's very active in plenty of spots and rates and comments everywhere and yet she has no medals because she doesn't add loads or bulk upload load of images or add loads of youtube fan vid ect ect so i read it as a way to apreciate what users like her do because personally i apreciate rating and comments and a few bits of quality content a lot more than say hundred of screencaps from a movie that were just bulk uploaded.....when you think about it rating and comenting take more time than adding certain content so really it wouldn't be easier or quicker to get

i think it's a nice sentiment (although sorry brookeyourself i only rated your article 2 because it's not really that long and there's also a suggestions forum for this stuff :)) maybe when the fanpop four have finished fine tuning bits or whatever they would consider it :)

Uploading content in my case (as you know,awesomedebs)takes forever. It take literally take me hours to upload a decent amount of images - same for rating people's stuff.
However I do see AND agree with the point you're making. Some people are bigger on rating and commenting and yes they should receive some recoginition for that - definitely. Maybe that's something that the F4 could consider: a medal for participation as oppossed to just contribution.

what i mean with this is if you go to a profile you don't get it like "yeah, she/he likes that!" if she/he haven't medals!

for example, in one tree hill it's brucas or leyton! almost everyone likes brucas OR leyton. so my username is brookeyourself, and the b in brucas stands for brooke so by my name many people think i like brucas, but they're wrong, i like leyton more than brucas. so before i didn't have my dedicated fan medal for the leyton spot no one could know that i'm a leyton fan if they didn't know me from the spots.

so what i'm saying is this is my proposal, and it don't have to be like what i suggest! it can me a mark who everyone can place at the spots they like more than the others or whatever!

i'm sorry if my article and my comments doesn't make any sense. i hope you'll understand it becouse i'm from sweden and i've study english for 7 years in school, but i don't learn so much now (our english class sucks) but i think i'm good at english but i don't know how to explane things so good that's why i'm using examples. so please tell me if you on't understand and i'll try to make it clear.

I understand exactly. I think that would be a good idea, 'cause there are quite a few users who are members of loads of spots, but you don't know which ones they like to go to regularly, and which ones they're a part of just to say they're a part of it. Everyone must have some spots they don't go on.

I don't think it should be a medal, but I do think that maybe you could sort spots by how active the user is in them, just so that any visitors can immediately see what their passionate tastes are. This way, new users or users who don't contribute as much as they rate and comment have a way of showing people what they do.

Yes, I see what you're saying and yes that would be a good idea.
For example I have about 50 or 60 spots on my profile but I tend to be active (and favour) about 10 or 12. Most people do know I'm so kind of a Bewitched freak but that has a lot to do with my icon and my comments, I guess.

It's the same for me. i'm a fan of about 100 spots i think and my icon and username is from one tree hill so many poeple knows that i love one tree hill and brooke from one tree hill but i don't have a medal for the brooke davis spot and i want people to know i love her so why don't have a mark on the icon for per spot at my profile to show i like her and that i'm active at her spot.
but what about the other spots i'm active on but i don't have a medal for them

I don't really think I get this or like this Idea no offence Lisa but then you would be going to peoples profiles and all you would see are check marks and it wouldn't really mean anything. except to them and they should already know which are there fav spots, what you can do is go into your profile edit it and in your fav movie or books or even motto add I like these spots.

I wouldn't have a problem with this, but I don't think it would be needed, either. I'm sort of on the fence about this.

What I WOULD like to see is a way to "bookmark" your favorite spots. I admit, I'm in a LOT of spots. I do the picks/quizzes in most (or even all) of them, but I don't submit to them all. I'd love to have a "favorite spots" list that I could add spots to. Sure, arranging the spots by "highest medal" will show me the spots I've added content to - but there are a lot of spots I only PLAN to add content to, but haven't yet. And spots I HAVE added content to, but don't plan to add anymore.

That probably seems like it has nothing to do with your suggestion, but it sort of does... Sort of. I'd be more supportive of this idea if it somehow made it easier to keep track of the sites you ARE active in. Also, it would be fun to be able to see other people's favorite spots, too.

Edit: I just re-read I Need Coffee's comment... and I didn't know you could do that! I'll have to give that a try... I'd still like a "favorite spots" option in the spots section, though.

i agree with you, i think that it would be nice to have a mark on spots that isnt so hard to earn as a medal. i have 5 dedicated fans and 1 die hard, but i have been working on those for a long while, and i am continuing to work on other spots that i'd like fans to know were my favorite, but it's hard. it would be nice to let people out there know that i was a big enough fan of one spot, with out going to that spot and looking at all my contributions, if that makes any sense. anyway, i tnhink what you are say is a good proposal and would make many people happier.

I think a 'Favourite Spots' list or 'Bookmarks' would work just as well, although that wouldn't be automatically updated, like the 'Active' mark.

Okay I've actually just tried out ineedcoffee's idea. On my profile page under favourite books I've added My Favourite Spots and included 7 of my fave spots. It doesn't allow you to include a long list such as 50 spots though. I fitted 7 in (long titles though)) but maybe 10 can fit.

Absolutely! You are correct and it would be easier. However, I guess if you want other users to know, say your top favorite 5 spots, you could always do what I did.
I only tried it out but I think I'll leave it on my profile permanently. ineedcoffee deserves a prop for this!

I understand the concept, but I think it should be a little different. An active medal would be very nice but say, maybe for the spots you are active in every day over some amount of time.

I think it's a good idea. I mean there's no reason NOT to try new things out just to see how it washes over. I think it would be a good idea though to have a 10 spot limit or something? Just so people don't check every single spot they like because if you join the spot then people know your a "fan" of that.

I agree with ineedcoffee. This would fit in with the 10 limit thing. If you like the tv show, movie, book, etc then you should list it under your interests or whatever it's called under your user icon. Maybe F4 could make more sections like favorite ships? I know I would list oogles of couples under there! XDD

It could be a participation award of sorts. For people who stay active and rate, and give comments.

Then again, this could get abused. Easier than trying to get dedicated ones.

Maybe you should be able to receive medals for rating in mass amounts and giving plenty of comments? Not just uploading content. I for one love to comment!

Also. As pink_martini2 said (I'm going to call it a recognization not medal) could be for those who are active in the spot every day? If you do not contribute somehow to that spot in 24 hours the recognization would be taken away? I don't know. -___-

my thought have turned around little, i'm thinking it maybe could be a mark you can put by yourself on about 10 of your favorite spots. or something just that simple! But i still want something who shows for if your active at spots.. i really don't know anymore
