I swear to whatever higher power you believe in that I am going to injure someone with all the shoddy spelling going around. Yes abbreviations are easier (in a sense) but it looks like a 5 year old wrote it and a lot of people don't understand it. So lets first go over some abbreviations that we should cut out of our vocabulary here at Fanpop when you post content...

u = you
r = are
srs = serious
2 = to or too (using it as "two" is fine)
plz = please

If you actually take that .5 of a second to type the whole word people will look at your content, comment and such a lot more and with nicer comments other than "WHAT?" and "I CAN'T UNDERSTAND YOU".

- If there is a word you do not know the correct spelling to either Google it and Google will hopefully give you the correct spelling, go to Dictionary.com or crack open Word and type it in.

- Typing with caps lock on is seen as disrespectful and also messy. Use shift for capital letters, much easier.

- Multiple question marks are irritating, you may think it gets your emphasis across but most of the time it just looks like spam.

Sure a lot of you are younger and adapting to the e-slang and such and getting lazy but please if you want to put time in submitting something actually type properly, this is not a chat room, this is a community that other people access and would like to understand what you are on about when asking or talking about something.

There was so much more I wanted to say but I'll leave it at that. None of this should be seen as bossy or strict, it is more common courtesy to the members of Fanpop.

ahaha claire, i dropped the chat speak " lol " ? okay we must be allowed to say lol or rofl or lmao because in my opinion " thats funny" sounds weird and after a while " aaahhaha " does also sound kind of weird. I'm perfectly fine with typing this way, I've kind of got used to it while on fanpop so everyone can understand and also the chat speak looks weird.

BRAVO! BRAVA!

On a side note, are we allowed to throw chat speakers into a sealed vault where they shall ne'er see the light of day?

Ah now wouldn't it be nice if folks would actually (the ones who really need to) read this and begin to do so. We can dream though, can't we? I have an idea! Let's remove medals and badges from people who use chat speak. Or start a demerit (spelling?) system.

ok I have a question. I have never used abbreviations on Fanpop and I notice a lot of people do so I was wondering what does rofl or lmao mean. Everyone says it and I don't understand. Good Article

I totally agree and would like to add that chat speak is especially confusing if English is not your first language.

Not that my English is perfect, but at least I try and it certainly is better then that of some people around here, even though it's their first language. I find it very hard to take these people serious, especially at the debate-spot.

Anyway, I agree. That whole text speak is great for texting, but not here.

I mostly agree, but chat speak used in intelligent irony can be funny when used appropriately. For example, you could have said at the end of your article "this is srs bsns ppl" and I would have been "trufax".

One thing I HATE is "atm" which means "at the moment" apparently. But it really means "automatic teller machine" so I'm always thinking "What about going to get cash? Give me some?"

One last comment, since I use Firefox I get red squiggles underlining words I spelled incorrectly, so people with this function have absolutely no excuse.

Good article!
