Suggestions and Ideas?

dave posted on Apr 09, 2007 at 10:57PM
Hey Everyone,

The guys and I thought it might be helpful to tap into the brilliant minds of our passionate community of users to make Fanpop a better place. Thank you all for all of your support so far, we really appreciate all the kind messages we've received and helpful feedback. Our goal is to make Fanpop the best place on the web to find content and community that you care about. I thought that maybe we could start a thread with ideas and suggestion on what you would like to see from Fanpop. I can't guarantee that we can implement all of them, but we always take our users suggestions very seriously. So feel free to post your thoughts here!

Dave

Well, I DID report them and they got moved. I just don't understand why they were rated 5's even though they were in the wrong spot.

Just different ratings standards. Many people will rate the content independent of where they find the content, even though that drives me (us?) nuts.

Is it weird that the ratings remain after content is moved?

aboot the quizzes:
a) like i said before..you can get answers by looking at peoples comment in their activity section and
b) is there a limit to how many questions you can answer when you are not logged in??

cause thats like..OMG! major cheatfest
*salutes* major cheatfest!

anyway..you can just log out, answer, see the results and log back on..not that i would..and not that you cant cheat anyway (looking up the answer) but that way at least you have to go through the trouble of researching ;)
ok i tried..randomly clicked 14 answers..so i guess there is no limit :D

When i add a multi part video (more than 6 parts) and go to edit it, it deletes the other parts. My assumption is because it has a drop down type thing and reverts to being closed when you go to edit and wipes all that info away. But yeah, i just realised it and it's quite annoying it does that.

i have a suggestion about our profile , we should be able to add notes to it like the notes on windows vista side bar so we can write that we will leave fanpop for a while so the other users know so they wouldn't think that the users stopped hi activities,, but we should be able to add 1 or 2 notes only so it wont be used for the wrong purpose

sakoon- i'm not sure exactly what you meant but you could always put it as you name or motto to let others know

If you have windows vista and sidepanel then you can add this little notebox. Really useful. Then we don't have to delete our name or motto.

If we could get some Twitter intergration on the profiles that would save some time. As then I could update Twitter

To let everyone know what I'm doing and then as well as it automatically updating Facebook, it could update Fanpop too, and a bonus to this is that you can do it via text messaging if you are out and about.

how about medals for people who created spots?

user photo knifewrench said:
Oh, I so agree with the "deleting pick" thing. The best people can do at the moment is close the pick.

Although I don't quite agree with your second point. Anyone can make a spot, it takes a real good Fanpopper to make that spot a success, and sometimes that person isn't the creator.

hhhmm i like that point of view. but then again couldnt the moderators just delete that spot?

Sure they could. But how would you have the system determine how a person would earn a medal for spot creation? The medals are, as far as we know, completely automatic, based on some algorithms that the staff have implemented. So you'd need some sort of formula for a spot award...I have to admit, I'm at a loss for how you would calculate such a thing.

Also, we can't edit picks because of the potential for abuse - same thing with quiz questions. If we were able to edit them, we could do a "bait & switch": have a pick that says "I always say hello to my friends", but then, after 100 people choose that, change it to "I always pick my nose while dining". Voila! Big practical joke on everybody! No, we can't have that. We just have to get the questions and picks right the first time.

Maybe just a box where there stands : contact spot creator or the person in charge.

You know like you can edit a spot :)

user photo harold said:
But there is no person in charge! That's the whole point. As Fanpop users, we should do away with the whole idea of a spot "creator" in favor of spot initiators: that's much more accurate.

knifewrench: would you really like a mosaic of all your spots? Wouldn't that be several screens long? I would think that would be completely unusable...or are you saying that you'd like the size of the logos to scale down so that they'd all fit onto one page? That's an interesting idea, but in many cases (that is, for many users who've joined a lot of clubs) it would still be unusable, since the spot logos would get so small that they wouldn't be recognizable.

I'd like a whole page of 50x50 pixel icons of my spots. I think it would fit..... I mean, We're talking about THE WHOLE SCREEN, so I think it would be fine.

I think you're right, harold and that's why the box is needed; so all fans can have influence in the spot banner, logo, motto and keywords.

If we just know who created the spot, we would know who to ask.

user photo PkmnTrainerJ said:
If you don't know who made the spot and want to change the banner/icon or something, then you should first of all poll the spot with a Pick detailing the changes you wish to make, to ensure everyone is thinking the same, and then message one of the Fanpop Four with the changes that need making.

knifewrench: Be glad you have Mosiaced spot lists, they didn't exist when I joined. :-P
