The guys and I thought it might be helpful to tap into the brilliant minds of our passionate community of users to make Fanpop a better place. Thank you all for all of your support so far, we really appreciate all the kind messages we've received and helpful feedback. Our goal is to make Fanpop the best place on the web to find content and community that you care about. I thought that maybe we could start a thread with ideas and suggestion on what you would like to see from Fanpop. I can't guarantee that we can implement all of them, but we always take our users suggestions very seriously. So feel free to post your thoughts here!
Not sure if this has already been said, so soory if it has but what about being able to save forumns into your favourites, because this would mean i wouldn't have to go searching for them.
This forum makes for very interesting reading. So many bright minds in one place and so much fervor!
I would like an option to expand lists: A link or button on the bottom of each list (updates, picks, forums...) that shows the entire list instead of just 10. Or, if this proves unpractical, at least the option to choos of 10, 30 or 50 list items should be displayed.
Here's a suggestion and a few of my responses to others.
Suggestion: now that we can't rate our own links, please change the ratings graphic for links that the current user has created. Right now, it looks too much like I haven't rated, and I always want to rate what I haven't rated yet. My recommendation would be to remove the stars completely and move the averaged rating and number of fans rating over to fill the blank space, or to replace it with something like "Thanks for this link!"
On who created a spot: I agree with what Dave said - spots should belong to the users, not to their creators. That said, you can find out who created most spots. I've explained it before, but not here. The only spots that you can't tell who created it are ones where the creator didn't add links when it was created. You can always list links by "most recent" (which is the default), go to the last page, and see who added the first link. In virtually every spot, that's the creator!
goalstopper: audio clips can be made as videos pretty easily, depending on which OS you use, as long as you are able to record your audio. Without a camcorder to record visuals, you should be able to make the video blank, or as a slidehow of images, as you prefer. With Mac, you'd use iMovie, and with Windows you'd use Windows Movie Maker.
aleciane: I took a stab at explaining pending spots here: http://www.fanpop.com/spots/fanpop/soappbox/267 (search for 'pending'). In brief, spots are pending until enough users join and/or rate the content. A spot could have one link and become promoted, if that link had enough ratings. Remember, ratings drive almost everything! Rate, rate, rate!
Even though we've already moved past the whole who created the spots issue I want to address something you always mention Harold. You say, "You can always list links by "most recent" (which is the default), go to the last page, and see who added the first link. In virtually every spot, that's the creator!" Well I have created several spots that within minutes of me submitting other people come and add the first link without giving me a chance to. That is fine by me but then by you saying to look for the first link, your theory isn't always correct. So it is not really the way to find out who created a spot because I find spots with no content whatsoever. For example I found the Abigail Breslin spot completely empty, and I added all the content so if they go by your theory then people will think I made that spot and that is what I was trying to avoid. But what I got from what Dave said above is that the person who puts the most work into a spot is the one who deserves recognition more than the person who just pushed a few buttons to submit it and left it empty, and I completely agree. :)
You're right, it doesn't work with all spots. I still think it works with most...or maybe only many. True, you can't know for sure. Either way, you're seeing the earliest contributor to the spot, and they're the people who can get the recognition for contributing. It's all we've got. Certainly the emphasis should be on the content, not the creator.
Wow! There are so many amazing ideas here. Here are some of my views:
Firstly, I love the idea of rating picks. However I only think this will work if fanpoppers rate the pick based on creativity & not whether they agree with the pick & the comments being made.
I also think that fanpoppers being able to choose a skin for their profile is a great idea as it will make the profiles feel more personal. I also think that being able to choose your top 8/10 spots would also personalise our profiles. I really love these ideas.
I agree with Dave about the showing who created the spot issue. I don't think that would work. I also dislike the banner idea. At first i thought that would be great if everyone decided to put pictures in their banner of themselves but you can't guarantee everybody would do that. I also think it would take up too much room, & for this reason Im also personally against the blog idea.
I've got just one idea of my own which I don't think has been mentioned:
1. Quizzes- I thought it would be fun if fanpoppers could make quizzes on spots & users could comment on them, rate them etc. & scores be shown.
I just want to say that Fanpop is truly amazing & Thank you soo much to Cliff, Dave, Michael & Papa for your very much appreciated hard work. I'm completley addicted :D
You should be able to make your motto in your profile longer, or you should be able to have your own personal paragraph in your profile where you can say whatever ever you want about yourself!
i would love to see a chat room. could be easy to make, just like this, you can just refresh every few seconds to see the replies.. i think fan pop need to be a lot more personal. there is no way to really chat with ppl, yeah you leave props, or a message, but it just lacks the closeness you feel like on other sites.
another thing i would like is to be able to have a spot for more pictures, or atleast see your main picture bigger, its hard to see what ppl look like on here.
i just wish it was more, real you know? i love fan pop dont get me wrong. but you just feel coldness from it sometimes. you dont get a sence of WHO the fan really is. ya know?
I agree, I wanted to be able to chat before but after thinking about it, I'm completely against the idea! I feel like being able to start forum discussions and send each other emails is enough.
Any chance we could be able to susbscribe and unsubscribe to certain picks/videos/images etcetera, there are certain posts I made a while back that I'm not bothered about getting update notification on and I'd love to subscribe to comments on certain picks that I haven't made.
Since we already have medals, how about giving medals for stuff like rating a certain amount of content, or adding over a certain amount of videos/images/links/picks overall (not just in a single spot, thus encouraging people to spread their added content a bit more), a new kind of prop for 'assistance' (since I noticed you guys hinted at new kinds of props).

A place for a short personal blurb which is easily changeable... like 'on vacation, see ya next week' or something.
Also, if possible, I think the image program should force a credit.
