lemme look into the future:
someone will comment saying: WHAT AD? i dont see it.
someone will say its possibily only visible to US users.
someone will say they dont see it cause they use ad block.
someone will make a screenshot and post it.
someone will say they like OMG TOTALLY H8 IT.
someone will argue the f4 will have to make money.
someone will say they never go to the front page.
someone will say they totally <3 it and want it to stay.
in the end someone will manage to turn this into a discussion aboot medals..and tomorrow the ad is probably gone- and people will start going HUH??? WHAT AD?? and the pick will be obsolete =)
I'm sorry, but I really really don't like this ad of teen tv. Not because it's there, but because everytime I see the homepage, the sound of it also starts, even after I put the sound on the homepage down.
I did have a constructive comment, but this tirade is not called for.
I am ashamed to even be a member of FanPop when I see this kind of reaction. I assume everyone from the first comment to me is at least 13?

It's an endless audio loop, so no, it doesn't matter if someone doesn't see it - they hear it.
It's been going for two weeks now, so no, it's not going away overnight.
It's on every freaking page(1), so no, it doesn't matter if people don't view the top page.
It's also unlike any ad ever seen anywhere online before, since it has all of these features:
a - it's a video ad that plays on an endless loop, immediately starting over from the beginning as soon as it reaches the end
b - it plays very loud, staccato music
c - you cannot mute the audio in the ad until the ad has cycled three times
d - the audio returns, unmuted, as soon as the ad cycles again
e - it bombs the browser, hogging bandwidth on a 100Mbps connection so that one can't watch videos with a Fanpop window open (2).
This is not your run-of-the-mill "I don't care for the aesthetics of the ad background for this week's promotion" complaint; this ad is forcing me and other users to change our web behavior, up to and including not using Fanpop. It's comparable to a virus. I work online for a living and have been for more than decade; this is the worst ad in terms of user experience I've ever seen.
1 - well, OK, it's not on the search results or login pages. But it is everywhere else!
2 - Yes, that includes videos on Fanpop. I haven't been able to watch any of the Fanpop's Got Talent (there's still two and a half weeks to enter!) video entries with sound, because they always get drowned out by this freaking ad! But other video sites take a big performance hit when this monster is running. I've had to start using Fanpop like Facebook - log in, check updates, log off and go to another site. That's not how I want to use this site, and it's not to the benefit of the advertisers or the Fanpop staff to have people cut their visits short like that.

I have Ad Block and don't see the ad, but from your detailed account of it, Harold, I'd like to add my name to the growing list of people who think it needs to go. Ads like that are the reason I use Ad Block in the first place. If all sites could be trusted to only use responsible ads that don't ruin the web surfing experience, then programs like Ad Block wouldn't even be necessary. I'm ashamed of Fanpop for allowing such a user-unfriendly ad on their site.

I really am happy when everyone sticks together I sure as hell don’t like having to swat at a fly when I have a whole pot of something important that needs cleaning up.

Hopefully you will get to know me well enough to know that if I have something negative to say to you, I will not do so in a public forum, I will send you a mail. On these boards especially on FanPop where we deal with a much younger generation, I try to keep the drama to a minimum.
