I have an honest question for the fanpop community and I am sure many people will be terribly upset by this article so I would like to throw a caveat out here right now.

If you get offended easily it is perhaps best to pass up this article.

I have been a fanpop user sine June 2008. I am a bit older and remember the old days of Nickelodeon. While searching that same subject I came upon this site. I checked around and have ended up joining over a hundred spots. While doing so a question has come up. Why do we need several spots to cover one topic? So I wish to explore this inquiry in a short essay.

I have a few possible reasons that my exhausted mind can come up with.

1. The current spot has died due to inactivity. If this is the case maybe it's best to attempt to revive it although I admit in this case it is the least abhorrant reason for starting a new spot. Sometimes it is neccessary to purge the old and refresh with the new. Still, I can't imagine it wouldn't be worth at least tossing an attempt at revival.

The My Updates feature received a major overhaul during the last few weeks. I'll provide a quick run down of how it works and what it can do for you.

Where Can I Find It?
My Updates can be found on your user profile page if once you are logged in. If you have updates, it should be the first module on the right hand side of your page. If you don't have any updates, then the module doesn't show up - but you can always go to My Updates from the bottom right link in the About Me module on the top left of your profile page.

What Does It Do?
My Updates shows you when content has been added to the clubs that you are subscribed to, when comments have been made to forums and content that you are watching, and when your receive props.

New content
My updates only shows new content that's been added to clubs that you're currently subscribed to. It doesn't show content that you've added, only what others have added. For images, it functions a little differently - showing only the last update for when any particular type of image has been added (icons, photos, wallpapers, fan art, or...

Picks are a way to state your opinion, or just find out what other people think. You might post a pick to find a new icon, or other's favorite foods. I like the way you can sometimes add a choice, which makes your opinion different.
Picks may also work as a school project: Example:Question: do you have a brother/sister? Project: take a survey and see how many people have a brother or sister.
Picks are a way to state an opinion without starting an argument, or sometimes they are not to state an opinion.
Adding images to picks is fun, too. some images are goofy, others can really fit in. It is creative to add images, and some times important, such as if you ask, "who's cuter?" you'll need to put images on the pick.
I like picks becuase they really are a way to state your opinion. They are a reminder that everyone has an opinion.
And that is why I love picks.
