Dearheart's entry External Link

My rendition of Touch of the Master's Hand. Piano, vocals, composition and arrangement were done by me. Many thanks to Tony who helped us record this, and to violamom who played the violin and guitar. (I love you, mom!) <3

"Touch of the Master's Hand" was originally a poem written by Myra B. Welch. She published it around 1921. (So give her the gushing praise for the words, not me.) =P I'm not much of a singer, but I love to write music and I love to tell stories. So if you could maybe judge this song more for the music than my...singing... *cringes* I'd appreciate it. XD

In 2006, when I read this poem for the first time, it...it sang to me. I don't know how else to describe it. It sang to me, and I somehow managed to catch the music before it slipped away. What I didn't know at the time was that many other people had also set it to music. The most famous would probably be Wayne Watson's 1992 version. I'd never listened to or heard of any other versions when I first wrote mine, so this is a totally different take on it. =) The only part I didn't write is the violin solo; that part was taken from an old beautiful hymn called "The Angel Gabriel". It's one of my favorites and the melody fit so perfectly, so I used it.

Though the song itself is a few years old, the recording is very recent. I was going to perform this for another talent competion, but I didn't have a CD or a band or anything to accompany me. So mom and I rang up a wonderful friend of ours who has his own recording studio and asked if he could help out. It's thanks to him that this sounds so smooth and amazing. (THANK YOU, TONY!!)

One last thing...I'm not sharing this song to preach at anybody, or shove anything down anyone's throat. That's not me. In fact, this doesn't even have to be "Christian". It's just a very spiritual, classic, inspirational poem. There's a message in it, for anyone to take or leave as they see fit. What you hear in the words and how they apply to you is entirely up to you. This song could just be something nice to listen to, or it could be something more...but only if you want it to be. I just hope it blesses you in some small way. =)

Oh for f***'s sake. that's my favorite style of music...very haunting celtic folk sounding. Before I read your description and I heard the first few bars I was like, "isn't that Most Highly Favored Lady/The Angel Gabriel"? and then...somewhere halfway through a second music program starting playing your song too so it started a perfect round. It was beautiful.
