Also - YES, there will be characters who fit into multiple categories, but I'll put an ass-kicker into the category where she fits best, to avoid repeats. When the picks are made, you will NOT be able to add characters, to keep things simple, so add them NOW before the event to get your pick in the running. I'll leave this forum open for at least a month, so add, add, add!

Also - I will update this entry as new categories and ass-kickers are added.

Wooo! Very cool :)
Trying to think of some to add. Maybe Daria Morgendorffer for quirky ass-kickers? And Sarah Connor for Sci-fi. For novel ass-kickers how about Lilly from wolfbreed?

Finished wolfbreed a few weeks ago Cinders, really enjoyed it. Especially considering I only bought it because it was the first book I'd seen in ages that didn't have a simpering woman, celebrity, topless man or twilight rip off cover. Apparently my local store has decided to dedicate it's book section entirely to celebrity biographies, twilight rip offs and soft-core porn.

Can't forget Ellen & Jo Harvelle... I guess they'd go under the 'supernatural' category? =P

I haven't seen any of the Resident Evil movies, but I hear Alice is quite the ass-kicker.

And helloooo, Lara Croft, anyone? =P

(The Actresses idea [now up] was DarkSarcasm's. Just saying, so she gets credit for it.)

I also added an "Action/Adventure" category for Indiana Jones types of badass women. Like the "Adventure Land" in Disney World. Also can include female cowboys, swashbucklers, and pirates.

Actresses must have played two or more badass roles. That's the rule. It may lead to a lot of adds, but, eh, I don't mind.

Great idea, Cinders!

Supernatural/Fantasy Ass-Kickers:
Jo and Ellen Harvelle...do they qualify as supernatural? I mean they're from that genre but they don't have superpowers.

Sci-Fi Ass-Kickers:
Carolyn Fry [Pitch Black] She's rather obscure but rather badass too...in a very human way.

Animated Ass-Kickers:
San and Lady Eboshi from Princess Mononoke
Chihiro/Sen from Spirited Away

Villanous Ass-Kickers:
Ruby [Supernatural]
Mystique
Poison Ivy

And how about some new categories?

Young Ass-Kickers?
Annie
Matilda
Sara Crewe [A Little Princess]

and Mythological Ass-Kickers?
Morgan le Fey
Athena
Artemis
Hecate
Morrigan
Spider Woman
Lilith
Circe
Medea
Aoifa
Scáthach

Historical Ass-Kickers?
Joan of Arc
Elizabeth I
Helen Keller
Amelia Earhart

That's all I can think of for now!

Here's the deal with Ellen and Jo. I had Ellen up there initially, then took her off because I was thinking the same thing. I was wondering, "Are these kickass women in a supernatural world, or are these kickass women with supernatural POWERS?" When DarkSarcasm suggested Ellen and Jo again, I said, "OK, we'll just say 'From a Supernatural/Fantasy world' then."

So that's the rule for that category - women with non-supernatural powers can fit in there so long as they're from the WORLD, if they don't have a better category to fit into. (I'm thinking of putting Fred Burkle in the "Scientist" category, for example).

Also, I added the Mythical and Historical categories, as well as a Shakespearean category.

I like the young category too, but how young is "young"? Twelve and under? Fourteen and under?

Historical:

Constance Markiewicz : (in case you dont know of her) She was a Liutenant on the side of the Irish in the Easter Rising even though she was born in London. When eventually they surrendered she told the court "I did what was right and I stand by it."When she was found guilty and not put to death like her comrades "on account of her sex" she told the court "I do wish your lot had the decency to shoot me".

Thought i might as well bring a bit of Irish culture into it

Hit Girl from Kick-Ass (Appropriate title) would seem to count, I think, even just from the trailers. With the Superhero catagory, I would assume that most all Comic Book ass-kickers fall under there.

If that's the case, you could include Barbara Gordon (Batgirl), Supergirl, Hit Girl as mentioned above, Angelina Jolie's character from Wanted, uhhh...

If you're set on going through with the video game genre, then Sonya Blade, Kitana, Mileena (All from Mortal Kombat), Rayne from Bloodrayne, Lara Croft, etc.

OK, so what's the verdict? Here are the "potential categories" that have been mentioned:

Video Games
Crime Solvers
Military Women
Medical Doctors
Youth (and if so, how young?)

Which of these (if any) do you think should be added? Or do you have other categories? I think the Medical one should be merged with "scientists" as that category seems rather small.

Veronica Mars is definitely my favorite ass-kicker of either gender. She could fit in the youth category since she was in high school the first 2 seasons.

How about instead of separate categories for Medical Doctors, Scientists and Crime Solvers just one called Brainy/Intelligent [or something along those lines].

And Youth...maybe 18 and under?

18 feels a little old to be "youth" to me. I think youth, I think of a girl still in braces...

I WANT Veronica Mars up there. I wouldn't want to put her in the youth category, though.

I'd suggest adding Mathilda from The Professional/Leon for the youth category. She may not have actually gotten to the point of inflicting real harm on anyone, but she is definitely a strong person and is respected in a way that young girls usually aren't. I also suggest Coraline from the book/movie with the same name.

Well, I was actually thinking 15 and under but then nuxi said Veronica could fit in the youth category and you have to admit that her age is an issue in the series. Meaning it's unusual for someone her age to be doing what she does. Anyway, I'm not totally sold on either cut off age.

By that argument (18 and under), Buffy and Willow could also be in the youth category, as they're both sixteen at the start of BtVS. So could, potentially, Hit-Girl and Hermione. Not that I'd change them right now, as their respective categories already suit them better than the youth one, I think. But still.
