my only good reason was that he fit in as their doctor. in time they both fit in, they both made friends, but at the beginning river was nothing more than a psycho path.
I have 2 disagree with u there Cat.
I love River> I think she was a valuable member of the crew.
Yes she didn't quite fit in at first but by the time Objects and Space rolled around towards the end of that she finally found her place in the crew. Serenity almost completely revolves around River finding her true home on Serenity and how the crew came 2 love and value her a true member.
remember i said "at the beginning". by the end i agree with you completely, she had found her place and worked well with the others, but it took a while, so that's why i chose simon. but you made a valid point :)
I guess it depends if you mean professionally or personally. Professionally Simon fit in from the start but on a personal level I think River.
Simon kind of..well not looked down on the crew, but he was out of his element in their world and they were all very aware of it. River seemed to take to the type of life they had better, and I think she inspired a need to protect and nurture in the crew, while Simon's attitude about their way of life didn't exactly endear him to them.
I'm with Asvini^
Simon fit in only as their doctor. His uptightness and focus on his sister kept the crew from getting too close. River, although she often didn't make sense, was more open. Like Asvini said, she inspired a desire to look after her. She was more at ease with the crew and situation. I think her status as a freak actually endeared her to them.
