What's the 1st Season About?

I wanna get into Fringe for this year but I don't honestly want to watch all the back episodes, though I'm told I won't understand stuff until I do. So could someone summarize for me what happens? I know, this is asking a lot, but I reallllly wanna get into the show and I reallllly don't have the time to watch the whole first season.

FBI agent Olivia Dunham teams up with mad scientist Walter Bishop and his son Peter to solve crimes involving the paranormal of "fringe science." Many of these crimes are the results of experiments which seem to be linked to Massive Dynamic, a major corporation.

You can read individual episode summaries here: http://www.fringepedia.net/index.php?title=Season_1. However, I do highly recommend watching them as that really is the best way to get into the show. I think you should at least watch the first episode just to make sure that this is a show that you want to get into.
