QUESTION

I just recently saw this for the first time, and i LOVE it it's definitely one of my favorite movies now, but there's one thing I can never figure out: when they're in that shady hotel hallway place, what is up with the kid with tape across his mouth? It's probably so obvious, but I just don't get it! Help?
