How to Tell if That Person You're Battling Online is Cocky or Not

I've played quite a few online matches on Guitar Hero, and I think I've become pretty good at reading people, even if I have no idea who they are (for the most part). I've become quite good at telling if the person I just wiped out with a lefty flip is cocky or modest.

If you've never played an online match on Guitar Hero, this might be just a bit confusing to you, and if you've never played an online match period you'll probably zone out part way through this from boredom, if you haven't already.

Name
The first way to tell what kind of person you're going up against is by their name. This is not the best source of information on your opponent, but it's the first. I find that people with superfluous numbers at the end of their names tend to be more, shall we say, over-confident than others. This isn't always true, but for the most part, I think it is. (The same goes for names with lots of Xs and names with profanity.)
People with short names seem to be more modest, and all around better online gamers. I find they're less likely to quit mid-game.

Number of Songs Chosen
This only applies if you search for a match and not if you create one yourself. Arrogant people usually choose one song (which means you don't get to choose any). (Another sign they're arrogant: if the one song they pick is "Through the Fire and Flames.")

Character Choice
You might think that the most arrogant people would automatically go for Lou (the devil) as their character, but surprisingly, I've learned that the most swollen-headed of people pick Slash of Guns 'N' Roses for their character.
Modest people tend to stick to the characters you don't have to unlock, not necessarily because they haven't unlocked the others yet, but also because they feel they don't have to show that they've unlocked Tom Morello, Slash, or Lou.

Guitar Choice
Guitar Choice is a lot like character choice - if you've unlocked an expensive guitar, you want to show it off right?
The bigger the guitar, the more over-confident your opponent, I've found. More elaborate guitars tend to hint towards cocky people.

Difficulty Choice
Personally, I always go to Expert immediately, and I don't think of myself as a cocky person. A cocky person would be the kind of person that selects Expert and then does horribly on the song.
Like I said, I select Expert immediately, no hesitation. Here is an example of some extreme swell-headedness I've come a cross: So, I choose Expert, right? My opponent goes to Medium, and I don't think much of it. But then a couple of seconds later they inch themselves down to Hard, and then eventually Expert. Either they have an extremely slow internet connection, or they think they can "take you" on Expert, which means , if they had to hesitate so much, they probably can't.

Song Choice
I think that this is the best way to peg how snobbish someone is. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, to prove my point: Snobs want to show off everything they've earned whether it be unlocked characters, unlocked guitars, or, in this case, unlocked songs. Arrogant people will levitate towards the Bonus list for the most part. The important thing to keep in mind here is that, just because they might be all high-and-mighty, doesn't mean they're terrible at Guitar Hero.
The worst person to come across online is the "cheater" as I call them. Obviously they don't actually cheat, but in a way, they do... This is the person that picks Easy or Medium and then chooses Through the Fire and Flames as their only song, while you're on Expert or Hard. I can't stand those people.

Other Signs
- Probably the biggest sign is if they quit mid-match, or before the match has even started.
- Excessive use of the Whammy Bar especially on shorter notes is a good sign.
- If they do really well on the songs they chose and terrible on the ones you chose it means they're the kind of person that plays two or three songs and none of the others.

It's important to keep in mind that there are always exceptions to the rule.

You can tell me if you agree or disagree in the comments. Thanks for reading.
