Before i watched hairspray, musicals so weren't my thing. Im 19, i go out with mates and musicals were just so not of my interest. Then I'm at the cinema i see a trailer for this new film hairspray. I have no idea what came over me when i saw it, as usually i would just disregard it as a lame musical, but something inside just said "that film has potential" and so began my hairspray journey...
It was a couple of weeks wait before the film was released and in that time i had been away on holiday and even there i couldnt escape this hairpray phenomina as it was taking over spain too. There were posters and adverts taking over over there. I just had to see what the fuss was about.
After what seemed an eternity the film was finally released so me and a friend of mine went down to the cinema to see it....
WOW! It was just an awesome film! its so happy and up beat and yet it tackles some everyday issues. I came out with a smile and even decided that i was going to purchase the dvd on its release. Since then i went back to the cinema twice more to watch it again and i kept myself amused with clips on the delightfull fanpop. I even bought the soundtrack to the film!
It has since opened me up to try different musical films. I've watched (and purchased) High school musical One and Two, Footloose and Grease along a whole bunch of others... and in december i went to the west end to watch the stage musical of hairspray. Needless to say i found it amazing and i thouroughly recomend going to see it (or go see the broadway production for those americans out there)
I challenge anyone to watch it and not to smile, its just impossible.
