How Bobin cut off Barney's balls

Now I'd like to start off by saying that I'm a Bobin fan. I don't ship- mainly oot of principle- but I do love them together and would like to see them ending up together. Only I would like to see them unite in the very last season (Season 10?).Why?I have been doing a little re-watchathon and saw the odd episode here and there from all seasons( admittedly mainly season 1&2) and one of the things I noticed and I had almost forgotten was the incredible inappropriateness of Barney! And not even the crazy over the top ideas or theories like the "Lemon law" or the "Hot-crazy scale". We have still seen those lately (like his fake family, his video resume)What I'm talking aboot is his incredible rudeness even towards his closest friends. Now this may sound odd since no one likes rude people who love to exploit their friends- but Barney pulled it off! Game Night where he made Ted tell the story of the re-return (Wow, Ted, you were right- you shouldnt have told that story) , Mary the Paralegal where he pretended Mary was a hooker (if you don't laugh aboot it it just seems mean), Moving Day when he stole all of Ted's stuff,Bachelor Party where he hires a stripper even though Marshall explicitly asked him not to, How I met everyone else where he makes sure Bla-Bla finds oot everyone knows she and Ted met online etc...the one thing you ask him to do as a favour or to keep a secret: you can pretty much assume he will do the opposite. Now of course in real life you wouldnt want to be friends with this guy (unless it was ACTUALLY NPH then who cares how mean he is)but on HIMYM we need inappropriate and mean Barney to balance oot the rest of the gang. Ted is a hopeless and failed romantic (Oh please, we all know how this movie ends. Ted falls in love. Love KICKS Ted in the sprouts. Roll credits.) Marshlily is sickeningly cheesy and Robin doesn't know where the hell she is going! As of late all we have seen is Barney being a slightly louder and crazier version of Ted- in a suit! He still comes up with the odd trick here and there and delivers a couple of funny lines- but what ever happened to him and his role within the gang? It's his job to mock the cheesiness! He is there to uncover the secrets! He needs to say the things you might think but wouldn't dare to say! He is SATAN! And he does a pretty good job at it, too! I know that people evolve and that relationships between people change and I am all for it but NOW? We are only in Season four and the whole dynamic of the group is messed up. It's like someone put the show in a blender and pressed the power button a little too long. Barney and Lily are now seemingly best friends, Robin is a slut, Ted is getting nowhere and Marshlily is there for decoration. What happened to Ted and Marshall? What happened to cool Robin? What happened to inappropriate Barney? Where is the arch of the story? Now I realize they wanted to make more "stand alone" episodes so the odd viewer who is not as obsessed as *cough* some of us can enjoy the show, too- but thats no reason to deliver mediocre sitcommy generic fluff. What happened to the mysteries? Where are the twists in the episodes? When was the last time you thought: "Oh I didn't expect that to happen!"? As much as everyone wants Bobin now I'm pretty sure it would be the end of HIMYM as we know it! (Mental note: Must make "End of HIMYM as we know it" video for FGT) Now I still love the show of course I do and as we all know any crappy HIMYM episode is still better than a crappy episode on another show but really ( and yes I realize they don't read this) could the writers just watch some old episodes and get their mojo back?! And please if you find Barney's balls please give them back to him asap! |

I was never a real fanatic Bobin shipper, but I did caught myself cheering a little at the end of 'The Leap'. A part of me really hopes they get together, because I am anxious to find out what would happen. Would their relationship work? Would Barney cheat on her? Would she forgive him? All those things can make pretty interesting episodes.
But now that I have read your article, I'm not so sure anymore. Maybe their relationship will turn HIMYM into a soap opera. And just like you, I miss the old Barney too! If I want to see a dreamy, romantic guy, there's always Ted. But if I want to see a sarcastic, obnoxious and awesome ladies man, I turn to Barney! So, on that, you are right: bring back Barney's balls!

i completely agree- and i just want to say this again- that Bobin make a great couple! all the things you point oot are true and i would like to see all of those things happen JUST NOT YET!
i sorta feel they wrote themselves against a wall with that hook up.
id be cheering and woooooing (yeah imma woo girl when it comes to himym)if we were in S10 (the last season mark my words!!!!) but as of now PURlease.. lets focus on the great chemistry the gang has together!
I have to say, your idea of letting Robin and Barney hook up in season 10 kinda appeals to me. It could be the happy ending for all of them: Ted finding the mother of his children, Lily and Marshall having a baby and Robin and Barney finally hooking up.
Though, I don't think they wrote themselves against a wall by letting them hook up now already. This storyline could function as the set up for the final hookup at the end of HIMYM. Maybe now they have a short relationship, split up (either because Barney cheats, or they are simply not ready to settle down yet, it could be anything) and finally become friends again. Around the middle of season 10 one of them starts to have feelings for the other one again, and eventually they will live happily ever after as a couple.
Maybe this will be good for both characters. It's been quite a while since Robin had a relationship, so I think it will do her good. Barney had never had a relationship (apart from his hippy-teen years of course), but maybe having one will bring back the old Barney even better. He could feel like he has to make up for the time were he was 'a Ted' and be even more sarcastic, obnoxious and awesome, and sleep with even more women, using even more awesome way's to trick them. He could come back with bigger balls then he had before! (Let's hope so..)
i have an issue with the hook up now because of ted. i just didnt like them having sex. it would have been fine to give them this "moment" maybe even a kiss. but this way this further emphasizes slutty robin and really there were like let me research 6! i repeat 6! episodes between the " tedobin rebound sex" in slapsgiving and robin jumping in bed with barney in sandcastles.
yes tedobin is over..im not suggesting they should get back together but jeeeez 6 episodes and you cant contain yourself? banging the best friend of all people?
from the writers standpoint and for the dynamic a moment would have been enough!
..it would have made the shippers happy and not pissed me off :P
also i didnt see any additional worth in the barney/ted fight. it had to happen after the robin thing OK but they could have thought of something else if they just wanted to show "friends fight but forgive". easily they could have fought over some other girl in this way and ted could have said: im over the barney in my life.
