I became a "Huddy" the first night that House ever aired. It happened the moment he quoted the philosopher "Jaeger" to Cuddy when he said "You can't always get what you want". She earned her place in my heart when she came back at him with "It turns out that you just might get what you need". On the strength of that quote started, what I believe is one of the greatest TV romances ever. For whatever it may or may not be, I can tune in any week and not typically get what I want from Huddy, but if I wait long enough, I might get what I need. For the writers know what I like to pretend isn't true. If they give me everything I want, why would I keep coming back? If they give me just what I need, then I will need more and I will come back.
Whether by choice or just because of the hoops we have jumped, Huddies seem to have a certain amount of spirit that even while at it's lowest point can't be completely extinguished. When Stacy came around and we learned about her and House and their past love affair, he made the comment to Cuddy, (pardon my lack of exact quote) "Why does everyone think that we slept together?..you think there's any truth in that?". Of course to a Huddy, that was like a golden ticket telling you that you had a place on the Huddy ride that while it seemed detoured, was really running steady and sure in the backround.
When we never really knew with House whether it was lust or love at times, he became obsessed with the identity of a soldier who had made out with Cuddy years before and we saw it wasn't just a passing thing. On Cuddy's part, we saw her consider House as a candidate for Baby Daddy and we knew, it wasn't just an obsession. There has always something more. We have yet to know the exact story of the desk, but when the episode comes where we learn the story, how worth it will that be?
When all seems lost we keep hoping. The timing has never been right on both sides. We have had a glorious kiss here, a longing stare there and words, wonderful words that could make or break a moment. Even when we have heard the creator say that they will "never be happy", we have hung on. Any Huddy that could make it through the five seasons and see the sex be a heartbreaking hallucination followed by our beloved hero ending up in a mental hospital. Even in the midst of that we kept hope.
So now when we have learned the big "what could have been" about House and Cuddy, we could get bitter, angry and ticked that Lucas is in the picture. Deep inside, don't we all know that we will get what we need eventually. Even if it isn't what we want? And as Jaeger says, "you can't always get what you want'...that also means that sometimes you will.
The spirit of Huddy is that hope is never really gone and each and every morsel tastes a little better than the whole cake all at once.

You hit every topic dead on and I agree with everything. I think with alot of Huddies' faith dimming this is really what we needed. It reminds us that we have made it this far and we will continue to make it. Thankyou for this beautiful article:DDD
What I fear the most is that House and Cuddy's relationship is an "end game romance". Meaning, House and Cuddy will finally get together on the series finale. Not SEASON finale, SERIES finale. They'll get together on the last episode of House to ever air.
I would just feel so short-changed if that happened! Huddy may never be the most conventional couple to grace primetime television, but to deny that they would be an interesting couple that people would tune in to watch week after week is ignorant. I mean, they are the two biggest smartasses currently on television. You telling me that them in a relationship wouldn't attract a crowd???
Like I said, I fear that this is what they are relegated to, but I desperately hope they arent. Let me at least have a few epi's with them together. Sure, there will be rough times, but there will also be utterly AWESOME times, too.
LipschitzWrath, what you said is exactly what I have worried about in the past. I don't really know what will happen, but I would tend to agree that their relationship would be more than interesting enough to hold the attention. I think it might be a case of TPTB not wanting to give in to public demand. The good thing is that we know that Hugh and Lisa seem to be in the Huddy camp, especially Lisa, so maybe that will help.
LOL I have always thought that Huddy shippers are hidden masochists ;)
All these new revelations are going to put a whole new perspective on everything.
I read an article the other day written by Doris Egan ( which was amazing BTW and if you havent' got the chance to read it here is the link: http://www.fanpop.com/external/9032320 ) and she said sth like your "every morsel tastes a little better than the whole cake all at once" (great image BTW )....
She said she liked to give the characters (and the public as well) a drop of honey in the cup from time to time....I think it perefeclty fits Huddy 'cause as you have been saying in your article there has always been sth deeper there...we all knew that...Neither Stacy nor Cameron could make us feel otherwise...
Since the very first time we saw them on the screen we thought "OMG the perfect couple with the perfect chemistry"...they were not a couple but we have been hoping all along...and sometimes we used to recived sweet hints that baybe we were not mistaken, maybe there was really sth there...The evidence you talked about are the greatest moment ever...
It's hilarious somehow, you know, we really do not have ANYTHING CONCRETE, that could really make us support them that much....I mean, other shippers of other tv-shows usually rely on kisses, loving words, sth concreate...we only have a history made of glances, humor, sensations, elusive words...but somehow that is strongest than any passionate kiss they could have ever had exchange....
My only fear is, as LipschitzWrath said, that they'll gonna end up together on the last episod airdated, but that sounds really sadic too me, doesn't it? And frankly it doens't fit the way DS and KJ usually face a a challenge, does it? (Tell me you agree =,( pleeaasee :P I need support on my delusion here!!! )
Huddy on screen as a real couple would be the ULTIMATE challenge, don't you think? If they make it....they ARE gods ;) If they are able to mantain the compelling chemistry, the dinamic between the two of them on another level and at the same time explore their realtionship with pros and cons I believe television will be dead after that :P....Nothing more to teach ;)
I hope they'll have the guts...
Beatrix, thank you for the encouragement and also the link. That is a great article!!
Lets just all keep the Huddy faith!!
I agree with Deli_Beatrice that I really don't think it would be worth it if they got together only to have them apart again an episode or two later because they think that would be "good ratings" material. I have gone around and around in my head over it in the past. My personal thoughts are that they COULD, if they wanted, have the tangible Huddy relationship going on in such a way that we would be interested beyond a couple of episodes. At the same time, my logical brain tells me that the producers are going to be VERY hesitant to allow that to happen for fear of the "Moonlighting Curse". I choose to keep the faith that Huddy is bigger than anything that DS/KJ could have anticipated and that it has taken on a life of it's own. I think that even though there are a lot of fans that are not Huddies, to ignore the large group that are would be a mistake at this point. It doesn't really matter what they originally planned.
*noms*
I believe that Huddy should get together the season finale BEFORE the last season of the show. Then we get to see them together for the last season and it allowed us the opportunity to see them together but it doesn't give enough time to turn it into a soap opera.
It's truly the little things that keeps us amazed. I see a look or a glance and I'm entranced. Then it keeps me in suspense untilt the next one!
There are many aspects to House MD as a show that I adore. The medical mysteries, the characters, the interactions and so on. Huddy is one aspect, but a very intriguing one.
