John Steinbeck is one of the most widely read American writers of the 20th century for his books about the working class, migrants, and the Great Depression.
Here you can discuss which of Steinback's many novels was your favourite and explain what makes it your favourite.
For me the Grapes of Wrath was Steinbeck's best novel. His use of imagery and metaphore was very poignant. His description of the anger of the migrants who couldn't get any work even though the fruit was rotting on the trees because there was no one to pick it, the landowners refused to give these "Okies" ant work. I loved the way that Steinbeck described how the landowners were sowing the seeds for the Grapes of Wrath.
Even in all the anger and action in the book, Steinbeck still manages to describe the surroundings in a soft, warm way, full of colour and life, which helps to calm the very intense atmosphere of the story.
