How'd you learn to knit?

I had my step-mother teach me the very basics of knitting when I was 12. I stopped for years and picked it up again when I was 18. I've had to teach myself everything basically and it's been very hard. I'm still dying to learn to do intarsia and how to cable. But no one can teach me because I don't know anyone who can. It's very sad.
