McDonald's Singing "clean" commercial

EmpressDR posted on Jan 01, 2007 at 10:20PM
My two radio teachers at Fullerton College made the same lame joke in 2005 regarding McDonald's ads, "I'm Loving It." they said, "I'm not loving it!"
Bleah. With both making that swipe, I could tell that's a jibe making the rounds. McDonald's is trying a new campaign, and it's as good as most others.

But NOT as GREAT as their classic one! I think it won an award, too!

Back in the early-mid 1970's there was a really excellent ad with such a great song --it had McDonald's employees dancing, while cleaning with mop, broom and rag, singing this great song about how clean McDonald's is-- the lyrics went something like:

"Scrub the counter and floor --then scrub it some more"

"There is nothing so clean -- as my burger machine!"

"At McDonald's it's CLEAN!"

"You deserve a break today --so get up and get away--to McDonald's!"

I think this may have also been composed by the same person and ad agency who did Dr Pepper's "I'm a Pepper, she's a Pepper, he's a Pepper, wouldn't you like to be a Pepper, too? Be a Pepper, drink Dr Pepper!" starring the hot-looking David Naughton, who got a LOT of attention, and went on to do "An American Werewolf in London."

Which reminds me of Saturday Night Live's Laraine Newman doing a character who phones hundreds of people trying to get people to commit to being a "Pepper," too.

I hope someone will post these, or direct me to a link or DVD that has them, as I want to see them again.

The McDonald's singing ad

The ad has a great tenor manager and six multicultural McDonald's crew members, including two black guys, one Asian, maybe Hispanic. Very nicely done, showing that not only is McDonald's a clean, safe restaurant to eat in, it does not discriminate.

Two Mop Guys Crew: "Grab a bucket and mop..."
Two Rag Guys Crew: "Scrub the bottom and top."

Burger Machine Guy: "There is nothing so clean as my burger machine!"

Two Broom guys Crew: "With a broom and a brush"
Two Brush Guys Crew: "Clean it up for the rush"

Fine Tenor Manager: "Before you open the door..."
Al Joson sound-alike: "Put a shine on the floor!"
group, dancing --one guy: "When we've finished with that..."
Burger Machine Guy: "Start it over again!"
Fine Tenor Manager: "Tell what does it mean?"
Crew: "At McDonald's it's clean!"

[ Fine Tenor Manager nods, satisfied ]

[ Crew goes out to the parking lot to kick up their heels and dance ]

All: "You deserve a break today! So get up and get away! To McDonald's! McDonald's! McDonald's!"

[ they get on their knees, gesturing to McDonald's doors at the end --Welcome in! ]

I can't be certain, but the tall black guy looks like John Amos from Good Times and Roots. It IS! I checked his imdb listing , in "other works"--1971 McDonald's commercial. The Fine Tenor Manager looks familiar --I think he's the guy in Blazing Saddles who says that the black people can join the town, "But we don't want the Irish!" before relenting. He was a good character actor. The main Rag Guy looks like one of my TV teachers, but I know it isn't him.
