Does anyone else think that lord Denethor was a bit loony?

It just surprises me that Lord Denethor could give spawn to the mighty warriors Farimir and Borimir. It just makes me so mad when Lord Denethor sends Farimir and a bunch of warriors to try to take back osgiliath after it is over run by Orcs in the Third movie!

Well when he tries to kill himself and his sick son who got injured because of his father sending him on a pointless attack on osgilath

So yeah he was very very loony and since he was "king" i doubt he spent much time with his children as kings of old rarely did so a childminder would have raised boromir and faramir and they would have been influenced by the nearest male figure so that person must have been a good man

First of all, Denathor was the stuart of Gonor not the King. That being said, he would have replaced the late king until one of royal descent could be crowned. If you didn't know; A stuart was someone who would take the place of the next highest in the chain of command if most unfortunate surcomestances befell the true king.

I knew that thats why i put king in inverted comma's!

But he believed he was king and was treated that way

My point is that Denathor would most likely not have been stuart while Farimir and Borimir were children. He most likely would not have had a childminder.
