So everyone keeps asking that most hated question of all: Who will Kate be with? Now if your like me, your sick and tired of seeing this question all over the internet. Also if your like me, you never really cared about it in the first place because you realize their stupid love triangle is the farthest thing from the best part of show.

That being said, lets "solve" this mystery. First of all, strip away all feeling you have about this. It doesn't matter who you like better, or who you feel Kate's character is more inclined to. Instead lets look at things from a writers standpoint. Lets examine how stories are told.

First of all, the lead male will always end up with the lead female. This is untrue in the case of tragedies, but it should be clear that Lost is not written this way. So what does that mean? It means Jack and Kate will be together in the end.

Jack is also the "good guy" and Sawyer the "bad boy" - that much is clear. It is also age old storytelling (and in my opinion, real world fact) that girls are far more attracted to the "bad boy". However they tend to have their "fling" if you will, with the bad boy, then settle down with the good guy. I don't believe this Lost triangle will end any differently.

So now we're left with explaining how Kate will choose. She has already made it abundantly clear that she can't make up her mind, with all that bouncing back and forth. So it would appear someone or something is going to have to make the choice for her. For example......death. In order for Kate to choose Jack or Sawyer, there can only be Jack OR Sawyer. If both are still around, this will never be resolved.

So who dies you ask? Sawyer. Don't get me wrong, I like Sawyer, and in fact I absolutely hate Jack. However we know come the last episode of season 6, Jack will still be standing, we knew that in season 1. There should be no suspense as to whether or not Jack will make it all the way.

That being said, lets take storytelling into account again. Sawyer, the bad boy who never knew love, but learned to love, and love deeper than any, because of the love of one women - poetic yes, and again a story in itself that has been told for centuries. So, from a writer/storyteller point of view, how would you write this? How are you going to pull on the heart-strings of all these fangirls? Simple. Kill Sawyer in a very dramatic and epic way - Like saving Kate(probably with his shirt off) Thus leaving Kate and fangirls alike weeping for his ultimate sacrifice.

I don't feel like this should be a surprising conclusion. Ive always felt this outcome to be quite obvious. Sawyer will die saving Kate in some heroic fashion. Probably half-way through season 6, in order to leave enough time for grieving and Kate to officially settle on Jack.

I understand my writing is highly opinionated. Thats what this is, my opinion. However I'm sure that I'm correct. This is the way things are written. This is the way stories are told.

I disagree, andd it has nothing to do with the fact that I love Sawyer. Yes, the 'hero' always get the girl - but if Lost is anything, it's that we NEVER know what's gonna happen.

It was the plan that Jack should have been killed in episode 1 - so why do we know that he's gonna be there in the last episode? And I don't believe that Sawyer is gonna die either, in fact I think that he's role is gonna be bigger in these last two seasons.

.. and is anything more romantic then a 'bad boy' who hasn't been able to love something to meet a woman and learn to love?

- But that is just my opinion.

I can't sa that I didn't think about what you've just said"sawyer's death" but I started to change my mind with the begining of season five I also agree with Triinia totally.
But we've missed a part what if Sawyer stopped loving Kate or JUST got sick of her and her love for Jack.Because he defnetly knows that she's in love with Jack.Although-what i think- Sawyer loves Kate more than Jack does

You both bring up valid points, that thanks for the comments even if you disagree! I had forgotten that Jack was set to die in the first episode. Another thing I forgot to add (and your icon reminded me) Is what kind of relationship - if any - could possibly develop between Sawyer and Juliet in season 5? Bother are not significantly attached to the freighties, and Locke seems to follow his own path more often than not. Leaving Sawyer and Juliet together in a possible leadership type role.

I disagree with you, they will probably keep both Sawyer and Jack alive to the very end. Because both of their roles are so much bigger now, especially Sawyer's. He the leader of the Losties now. To be honest, I always wanted Jack to get killed off. He was such a egocentric asshole.

I completely agree the tension has built up about the fact that kate will end up with Jack or sawyer.as sawyer is learning how to love, his final test will be saving kate after returning to jack after a fight because it will show fangirls how far he has come. and trying to write in they end up happily ever would be near impossible.

First off I am a Jater, but I don't think that Lost will end with them together. Nor do I think Kate will end up being with Sawyer. I actually believe Kate is going to die in the end. It's the only real way I can see TPTB avoiding a resolution to the triangle. They've messed it up so badly that there is going to be a huge proportion of fans not happy with either a Jate or Skate outcome and an easy out for the writers would be to kill Kate without her making a true definitive choice. I just see it happening. Afterall who can really complain? Jate and Skate have both had there respective time in the sun, both fanbases have been appeased to some degree. Ofc I love it to end with Jate as another theory of mine is that they are Adam and Eve from the caves, but I'm really not convinced the writers will take a blind leap with one couple over the other.

As for Sawyer dying heroically? Really I think he's kind of had his BIG hero moment. He had it in the season 4 finale jumping out of the chopper. It seems a bit strange for the writers to use that storyline again. If any male has a big hero sacrifice storyline at the end it'll be Jack. I know a lot of people don't like it, but he is the main character, the main hero and the big ending endings go to these characters, not fan favourites like Sawyer.

I agree completely. Thats what I've always thought was going to happen even though I'll be sad to see Sawyer die.

I'm not a Jater. And I'm no longer a Skater. Any relationship that involves Kate, I couldn't give a rat's ass about.

But if Sawyer is killed off, I've had it with this show.

I love debate so just to knock out your theory I will need you to take a look at Dawson's Creek for example. Joey, lead girl, Dawson, lead man aka good guy and Pacey, 2nd string bad boy. Yet Joey's choice was Pacey. Now that is the way that was written, true?
I believe writers don't write stories we'll all know the ending. Especially not Lost because it's probably one of the most unique series as far as television shows are concerned. ;)
