Was this the first glimpse of the Black Smoke??? 

That was just a piece of debrie that hit the engin when it exploded, and was pushed the other direction. There is no mystery here.

tvman the 'the smoke' is there before it explodes, then kinda swirls up to the top. theres no object infront of the smoke

The producers have said that was a CGI error. Here is a link to back it up...
