My favorite show on television is Men in Trees. Well, recently, I went to their website because I had noticed that my Tivo had stopped recording the show. No new ones, no repeats, zilch! Well it turns out that ABC has taken this great show off of the air (some are saying it's because of the strike, while others believe that it's just another move for this sophomore show and it's constant time slot changes) with new shows to resume on Feb. 27th at yet another new time slot, Wednesdays at 10pm.
I decided to go to their website at ABC.COM to get the scoop, and there was no scoop to be had. Just a bunch of confused fans chatting about the things they could do to make sure that the network, who they truly believe is trying to kill the sweetest show on TV, keeps their beloved show on the air. Some of the action they are taking is impressive. They have resolved to write letters, send rocks to the network (a plot line only a TreeHugger would love and get) and make some noise about saving Men in Trees.
So, I am doing my part. As suggested by a fellow Fanne and Treehugger, I am writing this blog to let everyone and anyone who is interested in reading this that there are millions of fans of this show and we will not sit idly by while ABC ruins it's chances of survival. If you are reading this and you are a fan of the show, check out

and find out what you can do to SAVE THE TREES!!! If you haven't seen the show, go to the ABC site and watch an episode, then take action (because I know one episode won't be enough!!)!!!
Every bit of of everyone's effort will be helpful! Let's so show the networks and the advertisers that we want a real show, and not yet another reality show ripoff that will bore US to death and save THEM money! We work hard! After a day at the office, another shift in the rat race, don't you deserve to come home and unwind with a real program you love? Of course you do. Trust, if you give it chance, I guarantee that you'll love Men in Trees!!!

At this point, the best we can hope for this season (through the spring, that is) is that the network will decide to air any remaining new episodes which are already 'in the can' but haven't yet been broadcast. Since TV shows are usually produced from six months to a year in advance of when they are broadcast, the writer's strike means that no new episodes of scripted shows will be broadcast before the next season begins in the fall...at least, not any that weren't complete already when the strike began.
You can tell what this means: if the strike continues much longer, next season will also be in jeopardy. And that means that some actors' contracts may expire (depending on the terms). What does that mean? It means that the actors will be faced with a choice between waiting for the strike to be resolved and working on some other project not affected by the strike (lots of theater, lots of overseas productions), and that may mean that at least some of the actors for scripted shows will not be available to renew contracts when there are new contracts to sign, once the strike is resolved.
Yikes!
Edit: I don't want to sound like the network is a victim in this situation, or at least not like it's the only victim. Certainly they could work to come to terms with the WGA sooner than later, so that production could continue. I just wanted to say that the strike is a separate issue which directly affects whether new episodes can be produced - it's not ABC deciding against making new episodes.
No, dear friends, our campaign is to save Men in Trees before the network ruins it's chances of renewal with constant time-slot changes and pre-emptions. It's been off the air for weeks now and our collective efforts are to not only let the networks know that Men in Trees has a large and loyal fan base, but also to let them know that if they are even thinking of letting our show die or yanking it off the schedule permanently THAT WE WILL NOT LET IT GO WITHOUT A FIGHT!
Strike or no strike, we want them to keep our show on and keep it in a time slot so that the fans will know where to find it from week to week. (All of you true Fannes know what I am talking about, as we have been dealing with time shifts and preemptions since season 1!)
We have been getting updates from certain friends of the show on our message board, and anyone interested in joining us should go over to ABC.com and give it a look-see. We are hoping that our efforts will somehow ensure that Men in Trees will still be standing long after all of the strike "smoke" clears.
