When I heard that Stanley Kamel died, I was shocked. I felt for his family and friends and yes, I wondered what poor Mr. Monk would do. There was some controversy when some people mentioned similar feelings for Mr. Monk and were chastized by others who said that Stanley Kamel was more than Dr. Kroger. Yes, there was, and is, more to the man than that one role, but mentioning it wasn't a disservice to the man-it was a tribute. Stanley Kamel breathed such life into that character that we knew him, believed in him. Stanley Kamel was a man a lot of people didn't know, but we knew Dr. Kroger and felt his death. Naturally we became concerned for Mr. Monk. How would he deal with this blow? Would he be able to handle it? Would he totally regress? How would the writers of Monk work the situation?
The answers were revealed Friday, July 18, 2008 with the premier of the seventh season of Monk. The death of Dr. Kroger was handled masterfully. The writers allowed Monk to handle the death well.
