We all love Old School Nickelodeon ... otherwise y'all wouldn't be a part of this spot. But what and when does OSN exactly refer to? Does it refer to the '80s? '90s? '00s? There seems to be a lot of debate over which shows can be considered OSN (which is great -- please debate more) but here is a list of Nickelodeon shows from the 1980s-1990s, the prime OSN years, as based upon their airings in the US. Hyperlinked shows are the programs most agreed upon as being part of the OSN subset. But what do you think? Which show(s) would you include/not include under the "Old School Nickelodeon" category?

The Adventures of the Little Koala (1984-1988)
Aaahhh! Real Monsters (1994-1997)
Allegra's Window
All That (1994-2005)
Are You Afraid of the Dark? (1992-1996, 1999-2000)
Bananaman (1983-1986)
Clarissa Explains it All (1991-1994)
Count Duckula (1988-1993)
Danger Mouse (1981-1992)
David the Gnome
Doctor Snuggles
Double Dare (1986-1988)
Doug (1991-1994)
Elephant Show (1984-1988)
Eureeka's Castle (1989-1995)
Fifteen (Hillside?)
Figure It Out (1997-1999)
Finders Keepers (1987-1989)
Family Double Dare (1988-1993)
Get The Picture
Ghostwriter (1992-1995)
Gumby
GUTS (1992-1995)
Heathcliff
Hey Arnold! (1996-2004)
Hey Dude! (1989-1991)
Inspector Gadget
Into The Labyrith
KABLAM! (1996-2000)
Kenan & Kel (1996-2000)
Land Of The Lost (1991-1992)
Legends Of The Hidden Temple (1993-1995)
The Littl' Bits (1991-1995)
Make The Grade (1989-1991)
My Brother And Me (1994)
The Mystery Files Of Shelby Woo (1996-1999)
Nick Arcade (1992-1993)
The Noozles (1988-1993)
Pinwheel (1979-1989)
Ren & Stimpy (1991-1996)
Rocko's Modern Life (1993-1996)
Roundhouse (1992-1995)
Rugrats (1991 to 1994, 1996 to 2003)
Salute Your Shorts (1991-1992)
The Secret World of Alex Mack (1994-1998)
Think Fast
Today's Special
The Tomorrow People (70's and 90's)
Welcome Freshman
What Would You Do? (1991-1993)
Wild & Crazy Kids (1990-1992)
You Can't Do That On TV (1979-1990)
You're On!

I would like to argue that OSN begins around 1990 and starts to conclude around 1997 based on the dates of the popular OSN-recognized shows. Would you agree?

I agree with the ones that are hyperlinked to be considered OSN but I would also include You Cant Do That On TV and Roundhouse.

I don't recall ever having watched those shows but of course that doesn't mean they aren't OSN. Let's put to a vote. If (some arbitary number of) 5 people agree with tubby2002, then I'll add them to the OSN subset. Thank you for your input tubby2002!

You Can't Do That On Television is a classic. I can't believe you never saw that. They introduced being "slimed". A great show and I am sorry to say that the few episodes I posted don't do it justice. The videos from the 80s are poor quality. And Old School Nick should start somewhere in the mid or late 80's where half of those shows began.

BTW..This is a great example on how a soapbox article should be written. You can tell you put a lot of time and effort into it. If I missed I think a Cressida's Guideline to Writing a Soapbox Article is due.

Yes YCDTOT is a CLASSIC and original Old School Nick show. Just don't ever say "I Don't Know" or you'll regret it.

Maybe I did watch it but my faulty memory is attributing its episodes to another show. But it is now part of the OSN collection.

whoever said it is right!! You Can't Do That On Television is THE point in television history when Nickelodeon became synonymous with slime!! YCDTOTV is Definitely old school and DEFINITELY a classic. Does anyone remember "The World of David the Gnome" and that Grimm's Fairy Tale show (I can't remember the exact name). Those were two of my favorites!

I believe figure it out, finders keepers, pretty much all the game shows (GAS) that were created at Nickelodeon studios in orlando during the 90s-00s are highly considered as classics or old school, eureeka's castle and David the gnome are classics of Nick Jr, Pinweel as one of the first shows to air on Nick is by default an old school show, and what about Pete and Pete, I think you need to start hyperlinking a few more shows and I agree with you cant do that on television man thats how we got the slime!

In my opinion, Figure It Out and Hey Arnold aren't classic enough to be considered Old School Nick. They were pretty good shows (well Figure it Out was) but when I think about Old School Nickelodeon, I don't consider them classics. They're a bit too recent as Kenan and Kel was. I was born in 1986. I don't mean to consider myself snobbish, but I am really at the tail end of growing up with the Nick classics. Eureeka's Castle should also be considered at least a Nick Jr classic though I hated that show. I agree that the mid to late 80's and the early 90's are what should be considered Old School Nickelodeon.

Pinwheel and then if you go a bit older like Clarissa, SYS, and around that era. That and earlier is what I consider old school.

I was born in 1979 and I think Old school tends to be what your generation grew up with.

Considering I may be 13, but I remember KABLAM and AAH! Real Monsters!.
Shouldn't "100 Good Deeds for Eddie McDowd" be up there?

I remember new episodes of Rugrats in 05.
Ren and Stimpy isn't off air, it just got transfered to Spike TV. Try to see it.
Drake and Josh, Invader Zim, and Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide would be considered old school Nickelodean also
6teen, believe it or not, was originaly on Nick. It got transfered to Telletoon and Cartoon Network. The idea is the same, but the characters and setting aren't.
Doug is now a newspaper comic
Fairly Odd Parents and Spondgebob wouldn't be considered old school nickelodean because they're still making new episodes
My top 4:

1. Ren and Stimpy (I still watch it XD)
2. Rugrats
3. All That
4. Hey Arnold!

there's also that show with surfers and skateboarders who lived in the beach. I remember that one of the character's names is Sam. There's one girl, and three guys. Their uncle works at a snack bar and he believes in Hawwaian or something
Sound framilar? If it does, what is it called?
