Have you ever wondered why you can't paint like Vermeer? Chances are you just haven't bought the right paint brushes yet.

Have you ever wondered why you can't play basketball like Steve Nash? Chances are you just haven't found the right shoes yet.

These all sound pretty absurd, yes? So why are Nikon marketing-types now claiming that the Nikon D40 is the answer to every crappy photographer's dreams?

From the Nikon press release: "If you’ve ever wondered why your vacation pictures don’t look as good as those magnificent landscapes and flattering portraits seen in countless glossy magazines, chances are you just haven’t found the right camera. Nikon today introduced the new D40..."

Oh, never mind the years of observing, the mastery of the tools, and the natural born talents. I'm not saying I'm one of these good photographers, and I'm not saying that most magazine photographs are anything to aspire to anyways, but I think it's pretty absurd and misleading to average consumers to say that your photos suck because you haven't bought our camera yet. Buy our camera, and "chances are" yours will be just as good as those you see in glossy magazines! Last chance! Final offer!

Canon and the like are just as pathetic. "Canon's acclaimed G-Series has a new top-of-the-line model, and serious photography enthusiasts have a lot to be excited about." (shhh, don't mention that we took out all RAW support and made the lens 1/2 as fast!) It's just sad. Hopefully people who don't need that extra balance on their credit cards won't fall for this BS.

Here's the press release.

you are right, but if someone is foolish enough to buy a camera thinking the results be magical is worthy of his fate...
