How to Make a Decent Pick
|
||
Okay, I know there have been several other articles on how to make a good pick, but I just want to give my two cents - oh, and also, I'm really bored right now.1. Question Marks - a. Always make sure you put a question mark at the end of your pick. It makes your pick look a little nicer and also it's good grammar. - b. Multiple question marks are not necessary. Some people don't mind it, but some do so it's always best to just play it safe. 2. Grammar and Spelling - a. Correct grammar is very important. If your grammar is so messed up, people won't understand what you're trying to ask. - b. The same goes for spelling. If you misspell the word "ipod" as "tripod" it will lead to some levels of confusion. (Hey, it could happen...) 3. Repeat Picks Repeat picks anger some people (myself included, I'm willing to admit). It would be greatly appreciated if you would look through the other picks or search or something. I know it might take a while, but it would be greatly appreciated. You can read more about repeat picks here. 4. The Dos - a. Adding images to your pick is a fantastic idea! A pick without images is like a bun with no hot dog in it. The only times you might not want to add images is: if it's a "yes" or "no" question, if the question involves numbers, or if you down-right can't find any. - b. I can't stress this enough: ask interesting questions. You may want to even ask a fairly controversial (but not offensive) question. It doesn't have to be that controversial. Any question can become controversial through a simple comment. Here's an example: The question is, "What is the best season of the Simpsons?" Let's just say that you think the best season was 12. Leave a comment explaining why you picked twelve. It could spur an interesting discussion and really get the ball rolling. Always: Ask interesting questions. 5. The Don'ts - a. Don't ask a question that you already know the answer to. For instance, if you want to post a pick in the Office Spot, don't post a pick like, "Who is better? Dwight or Roy?" Unless you've suffered brain damage or have never seen the Office, you can be pretty sure that the winner will be Dwight (by a lot). - b. Picks are more "what do you think" kind of questions than the kind of questions you have in school (with some exceptions, of course). Don't ask questions like "What is 2 + 2?" or "What is the capital of Djibouti?" These questions belong in schools not on fanpop. - c. Don't ask questions like this: "Who do you hate more? Dwight or Dwight?" These are pointless questions, especially if you don't give others the choice to add more answers (see below), because you know that the answer will be Dwight, no matter what. 6. Letting Others Add Answers - a. You have the option to let others add choices to your pick. As the pick creator it is your choice whether you want to do this or not, so if you don't I'm not going to hunt you down and kill you. - b. We may surprise you! I've made many a pick in my day and I usually let others add choices. I've had some pretty interesting and well-thought-out additions to my pick. It also helps if your mind totally blanked out. Someone else can add the obvious answer. I've always had some pretty offensive and inappropriate answers added to my picks. The beauty of this is that they can be deleted. (See below) 7. Editing Your Pick - a. You can easily edit your pick by going to the top of the pick and clicking the edit button. You cannot make drastic changes to the pick, like changing the question or the answers, but you can change images. Also, if you've let others add an answer to your pick, and you find the answer inappropriate, offensive, or simply out of place, you have the power to delete it, but don't let this power rush to your head; just because you can delete options, doesn't mean you always should. - b. If someone adds an option without a picture you can easily edit the pick and add an image there. - c. There have been many other great articles on how to edit a pick, so please, if you haven't already, go read them, because I can assure you they are way better than this. 8. Expiration Dates - You can put a "retiring date" on your picks - the date, month, and year you want for people to stop voting on the pick. This is great for spoilers like, "Who shot Mr. Burns? Smithers or Homer?" because people can just add and/or answer the correct answer and your pick won't be as interesting. Well, thank you for reading the long ramble and thank you for your time. I hope this was at least a little helpful. |
