The death of 2-D?

I have the two disc version of Wall E on DVD and a feature I came across was "The Story of Pixar". It told the story of John Lassater, and his love for cartoons and the history from his first job to his film Cars. One of the things that was mentioned was that the
3-D told over the 2-D world of animation.

Now a days, the only fresh 2-D content we see is on TV and unfortunatly, some just aren't as good the old ones. Not as much hard work goes into them and they don't make us laugh as much. When was the last time they made an original 2-D feature length that wasn't a tv show at first? The last I can remember was the brillant Hayao Miazaka films like Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle.

So I was thinking, what if Pixar went back a bit to the good old days and did a bit of 2-D. Pixar rule the world of animation at the moment and what ever they make, we just can't help but fall in love. If they do so, people will be intrested in 2-D again and other companies will make more
2-D cartoons. Our only hope is that they tell good stories, not just make a cartoon to gross money. The only thing is, Pixar are already working on many projects (in 3-D) and until they read this, it might not happen for a while.

Ah yes! The classic Hayao Miyazaki films! I consider those and The Simpsons movie the last great (well the "great" compliment is more on the Miyazaki side) 2-D movies ever created. I miss 2-D movies. That's why I like to draw my comic books- I'm helping to keep classic 2-D things alive.

I, two, miss the classic animation of the latter half of the last century. Unfortunately, I think Pixar would have to hire a whole new score of animators, as their field has always been CGI. So if anyone goes back to that old school animation style (Enchanted came close), it would probably be Disney.
