Gus is not a poor friend! He's always there for Shawn, just like Shawn is always there for Gus! In a show like Psych, there has to be a Gus-character that keeps the Shawn-character from dying or getting into too much trouble. He's the down-to-earth best friend. Every show must have one!

I think that they make Gus like that in order to add more comedy to the show...when people see him run away they find it entertaining...people don't usually read into every flaw of the show...it's mostly there for entertainment purposes.

I guess my problem with Gus is to me he fails the test when it comes to the definition of friendship. He's reluctant to get into most cases, is not supportive of his friend, complains at every turn, unless it's in his favor not to at the time, and has on occasion done things that go against Shawn as in the "Woman Seeking Dead Husband - Smokers Okay, No Pets" episode when he told her her husband was alive when they were not going to tell her yet. Only because he was trying get next to her,through the whole episode. In "Tuesday the 17th" until we find he was only wanting to get involved in the case to get even with Shawn because he gets so frightened it looked like he was going to change. But alas he didn't, except for somehow throwing Clive in the pool which was out of character, I thought.
Believe me I understand why most people don't pay close attention to little details and I never did that much until i saw the pilot episode and the errors jumped out at me because it was all about details. But as i said i like this show, I just wish there were more than onlt 16 episodes per season. Used to be a season was about 23 episodes.
