The greatest show about inept cops in Reno, Nevada that has ever been made. Also the only such show.

Goodbye Reno 911!

Well, it's official. Reno 911! season 6 was the last we'll be seeing of Lt Dangle and his wacky deputies. Do a Google search and you'll find numerous articles relating Comedy Central's decision to can the show as well as Thomas Lennon's twitter feed on Aug 13: "Reno 911! was cancelled at 1:30 pm today. Won't be wearing the shorts again."

I might be shocked. But I actually watched season 6. It had its moments, of course, but the energy of the preceding seasons just wasn't there. Scenes with Terri (Nick Swardson) and Big Mike (Toby Huss) were still funny, but I think they could shine in almost any situation. With three of my favorite deputies suddenly gone for good, it was painful to watch newcomers Declan (Ian Roberts) and Rizzo (Joe Lo Truglio) try to make themselves at home on the show, while I and many other Reno fans considered them unwelcome. Had they shown some kind of synergy with the rest of the crew, I might have gotten over the loss of Johnson, Garcia, and Kimball. But it was not to be. Sketches including either of the two new guys just seemed to drag on and on; the more I watched of season 6, the less I wanted to see of Rizzo and Declan.

This surprising change in cast (and in between seasons) is what I think killed off one of my favorite TV shows. I'm sad, but at the same time, I'm glad I won't have to watch Reno 911! go downhill any more than it already has. Thank you, Comedy Central, for doing the right thing. I just wish it had gone out on a better note.
