I never could figure him out- where his loyalties lay, whether he was good or evil. JKR wrote him in such a way that it really could have gone either way. I loved that. Even if he had died a villain, I still would have loved his character. The thing about fictional characters is that you don't have to love them just because they're "good" or "evil", you can love them because they're fascinating.
