Well we all know its Kashykk but to expand on the topic he has a family as well , a wife and child. Well at least he did . Chewbacca was killed while trying to flee a certain planet with Han during one the stories written amongst the early star wars novels.

Kashyyk, he was enslaved by the empire and freed by Han Solo, which is why they worked together.
