The Star Wars Holiday Special (Part 1)

The infamous Star Wars Holiday Special from 1978. One of the worst holiday specials of all-time. Also features the first screen appearance of Boba Fett. Enjoy (if you can).

Read somewhere on line where Lucas was unhappy with the project from the start. If I recall correctly, he was not involved in this. I recall, when this was originally broadcast, turning this off 15 minutes (or sooner) into the show. It was a wise decision. Did the special really end partway through the cartoon with no resolution?

I remember more of the cartoon than that. Because Luke does his whole monologue about not knowing whether Boba Fett is good or bad.

Actually there is a part II posted up here at
http://www.fanpop.com/spots/star-wars/links/13501
where it continues pretty much where it left off.

I watched this thing in four sittings. I couldn't watch it all at once because I was afraid I'd start bleeding through the ears.

Even in 15 minute segments, I felt my brain begin to liquefy.

But I agree with mrk, who posted in part II. The animated sequences were pretty cool. And the original actors were completely in character, which was also interesting.

I don't know how I missed this thing the first time around; I would have been about 16 or 17, I think, or maybe younger. Perhaps I've blocked it out along with other traumatic experiences in my life that, gratefully, I can no longer recall!

This monstrosity is actually pretty typical of “specials” that they used to inflict on TV viewers during the 1970ies, and as I recall, Harvey Cormann, Art Carne, Bea Arthur and Diann Carol (sp.) were pretty typical guests on such things. I’m surprised Carol Burnett never made an appearance.

All kidding aside, I guess it was worth seeing once, just for curiosity’s sake.

mind numbingly boring until it gets to the animated scenes. I vaguely remember watching this when it was originally on...perhaps I fell asleep during one of the Bea Arthur scenes.
