Looking for Feedback on my startup!

Hello S&E community!

I'm looking for some feedback on my new company called You StyleMe (http://www.youstyleme.com).

You StyleMe works like this: Members create a fashion profile, upload their closet, ask questions about specific items and give advice by creating outfits for friends or other members. To create a closet, users upload items directly to the site, bookmark items from any online retailer, or add items from the community's closet. Similarly, when creating an outfit, users have access to a variety of sources - online retailers, image uploading, and closets from the community. It's been a lot of hard work to build the product from scratch but we are really happy with the progress. We're at the point where we need to start marketing the site to get feedback on how to make improvements.

I would appreciate it if you could register and provide any sort feedback - what you like, don't like, etc.

Thanks,
Nitesh

Hi Nitesh - really interesting site. I really like the concept.

What I like:
- Super easy login (no email verification -- thank you!)
- Clean easy to browse site
- The concept is easily grasped (I see a lot of sites where I'm thinking, huh?)
- Seems like it could be really helpful for people into style/clothes/etc (that's not really me -- but like I said, the idea is still great imho)

Where it can be improved:
- Frontpage is solid, but I'd still like less text and more pictures (just my opinion). But the top navigation is sweet and clean. Don't change that.
- Needs more activity, I realize you just need more users. You might want to more actively "seed" your site as you are grabbing users though.
- I wonder if it would be worthwhile to have users just click on an outfit they like (like a poll). Comments are great, but some users are really lazy. I'd try to engage them however you can.
- I'd love to see some ajax-y goodness on some of the filters when browsing (instead of a click and submit - but that's a minor nit).

Finally - I'm really curious about your revenue model. I added something to my closet and wanted to know where to buy it (I assume this is in your future plans). Also - are you planning to run ads?

I heard a talk recently and one of the speakers (maybe it was Joe Kraus of Excite and Jotspot) who said don't forget that when you go beta with your site to also beta test the revenue model. I couldn't agree more. I know a lot of folks are not keen on burdening the early adopters with ads, but you'll learn a lot more about how the ads will work vis a vis the site and the users if you do it sooner rather than later.

Anyway, the idea is really neat so far. There's so many directions you can go with this one...keep us posted.
