When she was done explaining the situation, he couldn’t breathe for a few seconds. He didn’t know what to do. He knew he should call Cragen, but he didn’t want to hang up the phone. His problem was solved for him when she suddenly hung up. He immediately called Cragen and explained. He got in his car and started driving. His thoughts were all over the place. He still didn’t believe what he had just heard. He was driving faster then he should be, but he couldn’t care less, he just wanted to get to the library as fast as possible.
When he got there the captain was already there and a whole team had been set up. He needed to calm down now, but he wasn’t sure if he could.
Meanwhile Olivia was still trying to calm the children down. The man had told her his name was Paul, and he wanted freedom. Apparently there was an open warrant for his arrest, concerning a few armed robberies. He knew he was going to prison, and this had seemed the easiest way out.
‘I’m telling you, it’s better for you to let these kids go! First of all, they’re not going to stop crying any moment soon, they’re terrified. Second, if you let them go you’ll have fourteen people less to point your gun at. Besides, it will look good if you let them go, they’ll listen to you then. And you’ll still have me.’
He wasn’t sure what to do, but eventually he said: ‘Ok, I’ll let them go. Call your friends and tell them they’re coming out.’
She called Elliot again.
‘Elliot, the kids are coming out now. Make sure they’re ok.’
‘How are you? What does he want?’
‘I’m ok, he wants’
She got interrupted. He took her phone and hung up.
‘That’s enough for now, no chit chatting.’
A few minutes later the doors opened. Fourteen kids came running out crying. Police officers took care of them and took them somewhere else.
Elliot took his phone and dialed Olivia’s number again.
‘It’s my partner again, they want to negotiate. Is it ok if I pick up?’
He nodded and she answered the phone. Right away Paul took the phone from her and started talking to Elliot.
‘I want a helicopter on the roof of this building. I know it’s possible to land there, so don’t try to tell me it can’t!’
‘Well, that’s going to take me some time to arrange, but in the mean time, you have to promise me you won’t hurt Olivia, ok?’
‘Sure, just make it fast. Call me back when the helicopter comes.’ He hung up again.
Elliot was worried sick.
