I was her for halloween last year (this year im being mrs krueger >:D) Okay so what i did was i took frizzzzzzy wig and took hair clips and pulled the hair together at the top and hooked them to other clips. For makeup I used black around my eyes but not to crazy, and a little bit of brown red under my eyes. My dress was just a dead bride gown but you can find a good black thing just by looking. ill post a picutre of me in a few. |

Here is a hair tutorial I found when I went as Mrs.Lovett for halloween last year and it was very useful.
As for make up, basicly you just need a pale white face and very dark smokey eyes. For your clothes a long black dress with half sleaves will do allong with a corset on top. I did try looking for a Mrs.Lovett costume on the internet last year but there was nothing that looked like the movie outfit at all. So it will probably be best to make your own :) Here was my attempt when I went as her last year. The hair didnt go as well this time but my first attempt went very well so I would deffinatly recommend a practice :) ♥ |

claire aka bob went as mrs.lovett for halloween (cant believe its time to think of that already :S..bohoo summer is almost over) anyway back to the plot:
www.fanpop.com/spots/fanpop-users/images/2730399/title...een there are some more pics there. go for pale matte skin (you can use a very light base and baby powder) darken your eyebrows using either dark brown eyeshadow or a dark pencil, lots of black eyeshadow and pale matte lips (use concealer and a brownish lipstick you blot with a tissue) for the hair..lots of teasing is needed and possibly a lot of hairspray :P depending on your natural haircolour you can darken it by using spray-on haircolour. here are some close ups of what claire did for her hair images1.fanpop.com/images/photos/2500000/Mrs-Lovett-ha...jpg id put them on rollers first to get a bit of volume (if you dont have a curling iron). im sure claire would be of help if you get stuck..she is a lovely person (or she might kill me for referring to her..no one knows :))and you can message her (though if youre a part of this spot i dont need to tell you this..youd know it already) |

cover your hands in gel and run it through your hair just before bed then mess up your hair and wait till morning, when you wake brush your hair and use crinklers to make it go big and bushy then spray it with hair spray and let it dry as for your makeup put black eye liner on smudge it about an inch down and put loads of thick mascara on, then put on very white foundation on and cover with plae powder.

well when i thought about being her, i was tempted to get the dress off of ebay. there's a seller who will make it to fit....for a price.
as for hair and make-up, everyone else has given you good tips. all i would say is do a practice run. then you'll know how dark to go before you look like a raccoon. here's the ebay page cgi.ebay.com/Sweeney-Todd-Mrs-Lovett-costume-Victorian...m14 |

Hair: ok to be quite honest, i know nothing about this really. i suppose you just have to have longer than shoulder length hair if possible. My mrs lovett who goes to conventions with me and cosplays has rather short hair now so we are looking for good long curly wigs to style like Lovett's hair. Claire sent you links to the dA tutorial which i think is your best bet for hair. ^^
Makeup: OK, remember that Sweeney and Lovett are PALE, not white, they are pale. i have seen some Sweeney and Lovett cosplayers who paint themselves with white clown makeup and then put black eyeliner all over their eyes. this is not correct and to be quite honest it is kind of a pet peeve of mine to see the wrong makeup put on, lol. So that being said, try to find some pale makeup powder and use that instead. It looks more natural and feels less gross on your face. Eyeshadow underneath eyes can be either grey or grey/brown-ish depending on the lighting in the movie, For lovett i think it would be better to do grey, make sure you have reference pictures before putting on makeup. A lot of times i have seen the eye makeup applied with way to much eye shadow. Yes they have shadows under their eyes, but not so much to look like raccoons. if you are worried about it getting worn off (like if you are cosplaying all day for a convention) put the makeup on a bit heavier, but not necessarily covering more surface area (does that make sense? (so darker, but not covering more around your eye) assets.nydailynews.com/img/2007/12/23/amd_bonham-sweeney.jpg i think that is a pretty good reference pic for her makeup Costume: Mrs Lovett's dresses are quite ornate, as you can tell from the movie. if you are looking to impress, dont go out and just buy the generic brand costume, it looks OK, but if you have time, try to make or gather items for your costume. The collar around her Poor dress actually had gold round and leaf shaped beads embroidered on her dress (if i had time and skills i woul actually do that to keep to accuracy) little details like that, if you can pick up on them can impress people (well at least in cosplay world they do) This way you have a better way of controlling the accuracy of your costume. She also has many dresses to choose from, but her Poor dress, By The Sea and Final Scene dresses are more recognizeable. There are people on ebay selling dresses, but if you are as picky as i am, i did not think they were quite accurate enough (i have no life and have seen all the detail on her dresses) you could buy a dress from ebay and add detail onto it if you see the need to. The dresses on ebay now are recognizeable but some of the detail is a bit off Try going to thrift stores to find things that are similar to her dress, that you could alter |

I'm being Mrs. Lovett as well. For her dress I found a corsetted prom dress at the thrift store. It was peach so I died it, it was 100% polyester so it didn't dye black, and I'm thrilled that it didn't. It's a very dark green (weird huh) but all the trim and most of the corset dyed black. It's something that she would wear but not exactly like any dress she wears in the movie. Then I bought a 3/4 sleeve black shirt with a wide neckline to wear under the corset (thus making it work appropriate lol) And of course lacy fingerless glove are easy to find at any halloween store.
My hair is much shorter than hers, but I'm my own Mrs Lovett lol so it'll work. Practicing, I've curled it into ringlets with a 1/2 in curling iron. Lots of hairspray and touseling. Then pull it up into messy buns on each side with strands pulled out of the buns and of the front and back. I've only done a little playing with the make up. but I bought white clown makeup for $1 at walmart then mixed it with my own foundation to make it pale not white without having to buy a whole new $8 foundation that I won't wear ever again. Blend it all over your chest and face. Then for dramatic, almost stagelike appearance, I used a grey'ish eyeshadow and sucked in my cheeks and lightly traced and filled in a triangle in the hollow of my cheeks blending it really well. That'll make your face look sunken in. In the movie you'll notice her eyes look almost bloodshot because they have a tinge of red directly underneath her lower lashline. line the bottom of your eyes with a dark plum-ish/red eyeshadow for this. Then I have a liiiight grey shadow I'll use to make bags under my eyes. remember blending will make it look more naturally creepy. Line your upper lid with black eyeliner and create a smokey eye with really any dark eyeshadow, either black or a plum colored red or purple. just make sure to saturate it heavily at the bottom and go lighter as you go up the eyelid. Im not going for an exact replica of either Mrs Lovett but am using key elements of Mrs Lovetts costumes. I have a picture of how the dress turned out but not of the whole costume yet... What do you think so far? I'm kinda nervous noone will realize who I'm being. |
