When NBC announced that it would devote an entire week to promoting saving the environment and “going green,” my first thought was how all the shows could cleverly incorporate that message into an episode. Unfortunately, my hopes were dashed as I watched show after show butcher themselves in order to get an eco-friendly message into their show. In the end, only one show, The Office, managed to do the impossible: it promoted the environment and “going green” without making me want to puke.
For those who are confused, let me point out that this comes after watching the entire Thursday night lineup. For those who didn’t see all the shows, allow me to elucidate. First, on ‘My Name Is Earl,’ Earl is asked to head up a presentation that is supposed to scare school children into not breaking the law. Then, inexplicably (and without any real reason) Earl is forced by the warden to discuss the environment in his presentation. It felt to me like the writers wrote the script, then just before shooting started, they realized they needed to add a green message and threw it in somewhere so NBC wouldn’t be mad. Strikers outside Paramount

Picket signs. Giant cups of coffee. Sore feet. Emotionally charged people who are willing to put everyone on the line for what they believe in. Those are the makings of any good strike. Unfortunately, the current strike of the Writer’s Guild has one other ingredient that most strikes don’t have…heartbroken fans. It might not be considered normal to be psychically and emotionally affected by the writer’s strike, but I can attest to the fact that it is possible. Since learning of what the strike means for my favorite television shows, I have been conflicted with emotions of pride, grief, and anger. Pride, because I understand what it feels like to know you deserve something and be charged up enough to be willing to do anything to get it. Grief, because my life revolves around television, as sad as that may be, and the idea that no new episodes will be made hurts me to the core of my being. Anger, because without fans like you and me, the writers and actors would have no jobs or salaries to argue over. It actually feels like a betrayal of my trust, and I don’t know how to reconcile that. Part of me wants to support the writers and the other part wants to scream at them to...

Don't you get tired of so-called "experts" telling us younger generations that "television will rot your brain"? Don't you wonder if they've ever taken the time to sit down with a remote and explore that theory for themselves?
Seriously, TV gets a bad rep, like it ruins our health or something.
